Ohio Lawmaker Wants Reagan Added To Mount Rushmore

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An Ohio state representative wants to see President Ronald Reagan's image added to Mount Rushmore.

Rep. Ron Young, R-Painesville, introduced a resolution Monday requesting Congress to add the former president's image to the South Dakota landmark.

Reagan died Saturday at the age of 93. He was the nation's 40th president, and is credited with putting an end to the Cold War with the Soviet Union.

"During the years of President Reagan, America laid to rest an era of division and self-doubt. Because of his leadership, the world laid to rest an era of fear and tyranny," Young said. "I conceived this idea some time ago, and had this resolution drafted and ready to introduce because I can think of no better way to honor the Great Communicator than to have his image added to Mount Rushmore."

Now that is just crazy. They shouldn't change any landmark for any president or leader.

If they add Reagan, they should probably add FDR as well.

It starts to really become a question of which presidents are considered "great" enough to get a spot on Mt. Rushmore.

I'd rather see Reagan memorialized in some other way.

This guy has too much time on his hands. Let's spend the Gazillion Dollars that would cost finding jobs for Rust Belt workers.

Gotta agree with ya... I'll put it in more succinct, direct and to-the-point language:

NO! F*CKING! WAY!

Not on Mount Rushmore. If you can find a big hunk of granite and can get enough people to raise money for a Reagan monument, more power to them!

I'm now finally getting used to calling Washington National Airport Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport... now that the Great Communicator has passed on into history, I don't have a problem with it now.

I still won't call Houston Intercontinental Airport Bush Intercontinental. Papa Bush ain't dead yet!

i've heard this being discussed for i don't know how long.....way before his passing this week, though.

i think once the media "hype" over his death is gone, a lot of these discussions will be, too.

Like i mentioned in the other Reagan thread i say to honor him maybe it would be best to change the currancy and put his face on a $10 or $20 bill instead of mt rushmore. I say we have to honor this great man in a great way and i think it would be best to do so with the currancy than carve his image on a rock!

I'm all for honoring Reagan. I'm NOT all for changing Mount Rushmore or any other national monument. Add another monument.

Agreed.

If they are going to memorialize him I think they should do it in some other way. I don't think changing the currency is a good idea either.

This is way random, but...there is a new high school in my hometown named after him that is opening in Fall 2005. This name was already set before he died. I know the airport named after him was mentioned but in most cases aren't buildings usually named after people once they are deceased?

There's gotta be many much better ways to memorialize a President rather than spend millions carving his face onto a rock.

If these men are so great, wouldn't their wishes be for that money to go towards helping people instead?
