Best Live Perfomance

Who did you see in concert and blew you away?

Senusret I 06-06-2004 04:51 PM

I liken the D'Angelo "Voodoo" Tour to three hours of sex.

Afterwards, everyone in the concert hall was nearly silent...all leaning on one another for support, slightly humming "How does it feelllllll."

I kid you not -- it rocked my world to the core.

Well, I haven't been to many concerts but the best one I have seen so far is Alicia Keys at the State Fair in '02.

Second would have to be the Roc the Mic tour last summer. But the entire concert wasn't good only Jay-Z's part and that because I am his biggest fan.

I can't believe no one posted PRINCE!!

I haven't seen his latest yet (countdown til July is on!!)...but past concerts had me walk out of the room just as Senusret so aptly put it:

PRINCE!!! I hate going to concerts at big venues. Somehow that amazing little man managed to make a huge arena intimate. It was well worth the price of the ticket. It was amazing.

Also, I've seen Wyclef twice. He's amazing.

The guitar is soooooo sexy.

Co-signing with the last two posters. Prince, whether I saw him in a HUGE arena, a tiny venue, during soundcheck (boy that was the BOMB but I won't get into it now), or at his studio (also a blast, that's where I got to hang out with LadyGreek) is ABSOLUTELY amazing in concert. The only thing I hate about seeing his show is he'll rework one of his songs and make you MAD it ain't on cd. I am still dying over the jazzy version of "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man" he did at the studio a few years back. Ticket prices are a wee bit high but LORD it's worth it.

Hello?? Can you say, acoustic version of Raspberry Beret (my fav song~odd, I know)? I was floored.

Um, how y'all hook up the soundcheck/studio session? I'm jealous!!

Well this time I'm stuck on the live version of Question of U that has The One and Candy Dulfer singing snippets of Fallin (alicia keyes) all swirled in. If I had a man and wanted to make some babies it would be on ROFL.

During year 2 of his music club he let all the members come into soundcheck before the show. Most of the time it was just him and the band warming up and cracking jokes. However on a few occasions he let the audience play or sing with him and during the one I damn near wet myself he stopped playing and started talking to all of us. Got into a long discussion about religion and houses of worship and as I was chatting up my girl didn't notice that he had plopped down next to me. I promise I forgot what I said for a hot minute but I did talk my musical idol for a few minutes before he moved on and chatted with some other folks.

The studio thing was also sorta part of the year 2 of the club. He was having annual music festivals at Paisley Park and that year he decided to play all seven nights and have different opening acts. Got to see Sheila E get her funky, and still looking good, butt down among some other folks (Norah Jones was so so nothing to write home about) and we all went to the movies in the middle of the night. Another random moment but it was a free movie. He's since cut out most of the perks but we can still get tickets early through the club and are almost always on the floor of the venue.

NPGMusicClub for those that are interested. It's MUCH cheaper now, 25 bucks, but all news about tours and cds and downloads of new music are there first.

Co-Sign. I saw her in concert (March 2004) when she came to B-more. Floetry was the opening act. They were both GREAT and it was worth the money(The concert started at 7pm and it did not finish until 12am)!

Plus I saw Outkast and Ludacris in 2001. That was a great concert also.

Pink Floyd - June 10 1994

The greatest concert experience ever. The sound was so crisp, plus a quad sound in a stadium atmosphere. They have spent big money on the stage, lights and sounds. The show itself was magical, I have never seen them before this and because of it, I became a bigger fan.
