I would have paid to see any of the blackface threads stay on topic without any of the ridiculous insults flying.

I'll second that, and add in any and all threads. Some excellent dialog and discussion gets lost in the name calling. Just because someone has a different idea/opinion/experience doesn't make them wrong, stupid, or <insert insult>. One can listen and be respectful while not being in agreement. Being vitriolic is not likely to change people's minds, and your point (which may be an excellent one) may be missed due to the presentation.
