JFK-conspiracy or not?

In my "stay at home mom" boredom, I just watched Oliver Stone's "JFK". The movie got me thinking about the different takes on the killing, and I was wondering what y'all think?

Also, I'm looking for good references so I can do some studying of the subject myself. If anyone has any good sources, please pass them along!

I took a semester-long class on this from my advisor, who's an expert on the subject. Our class website is here if you want to look at that. He also runs a newsgroup discussing the assassination (the link is on his site) and that website has links to just about everything ever discussing the assassination.

JFK did not shoot JR.

If you're looking for references the worst possible one is Oliver Stone's JFK. This movie is ridiculous and the attorney that Costner played has been proved to be a looney. The history channel did an excellent piece on the assassination with tons of physics experts that totally disproved any conspiracy theories that exist.

If you would look at the link I posted, you'd notice discussion of that, as well as about 40 articles on why Garrison is mentally unstable. The History Channel's piece is also discussed on there, because it too had errors.

The first time I read this I thought it said "psychic experts" and I busted up laughing at how stupid you were. Then I figured out what it really said and laughed about how stupid I am.

Conspiracy? Only the little green men in the black helicopters know for sure.

(I've seen the black helicopters)

Okay, wanna' know what's freaky? I was on top of one of the mountains at school taking pictures down into the valley, when I turned around behind me to snap a shot. Just as I did that, one of those black helicopters rose up from below the top of the mountain. It would have made for a cool picture, except I'll never know, b/c the next day, my camera was GONE.

Here's what always baffled me:

Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly shot JFK from the 5th (or was it 6th?) floor of the book depository. Within 90 seconds he dropped the gun, took off down the stairs and ended up in the 2nd floor break room. What I also find odd is that there were secret service agents/security guards waiting on the 2nd floor and immediately after LHO entered the breakroom, they nabbed him, "knowing" it was him who shot JFK. They also report that he did not appear to have just run down 3 flights of stairs (i.e. out of breath, elevated heart rate). Maybe it would be better w/ visuals, but does anyone else see something fishy about this?

The History Channel's piece was SO bad, they've already had to issue an apology for it!

Although I do think that there may have a conspiracy. My family has been friends with Dr. Cyril Wecht for too long to not believe in it!

Sixth floor, southeast corner window of the Texas School Book Depository (now the Dallas County Administration Building).

As newer evidence comes out in the open about the JFK assassination, I find it harder and harder to believe that this was a nefarious CIA/Mafia/Communist/(insert your favorite scapegoat) conspiracy. With modern investigative techniques, the 'magic bullet' theory as espoused by the Warren commission has been shot to hell - they forgot to take into effect the seat adjustments in the presidential limousine; once that's factored in, the bullet's trajectory straightens itself out... directly to the sniper's perch. It's beginning to look more and more like Oswald was the lone gunman, though who put him up to it is probably the real conspiracy.

Most of us will be long gone when the truth behind JFK's assassination will finally be known.

madmax 06-05-2004 12:29 PM

If the Warren commission gave the public all the facts then why would they seal the report for 75 years?

Did they seal the same report they gave us? That wouldn't make any sense. The sealed report obviously contains additional or different information that was not released.

Why was that information sealed for 75 years in the first place? It sure wasn't sealed to protect Oswald.

That's not actually what happened - I'll come back and edit this later. He was nabbed in a movie theater after shooting Officer Tippit.

Yep... the Texas Theater on Jefferson Street in Oak Cliff in south Dallas is still there... it was renovated but is now closed.

Right! He went down the stairs to the second floor where he was confronted by some people, but said he was on his lunch break (he also had a drink, I believe DP, in his hand), then left the depository, took a bus to his rooming-house, left the rooming house, shot Officer Tippit, and then walked into the movie at the TT without paying. If anybody would like this substantiated, I can do it.

(I think I'm secretly turning into an assassination buff, don't tell. ;))
