Puppy training advice
Well my pug turned 3 months old yesterday. And during the night last night for the first time, he woke me up twice 3 hours apart to go out. No accidents in the crate! This is the first time he has ever done this. Does this mean he is on his way to being "house broken". Please say yes!!!! LOL.

Yes! :)
And as he gets older he will be able to hold it longer and soon you'll be able to sleep through the night again! Are you taking him out to potty right before you go to bed? When are you stopping his food and water intake? Those things can also help curb accidents and lessen the need to get up in the middle of the night. |
Hi ISUKappa! I have him on a schedule where I wake up at 6, immediately take him outside and walk him, come back in, put him in his crate, feed him, take my shower and get dressed then walk him again before I leave for work. While I am at work I leave him in my kitchen. I also feed him his second and last meal of the day around 4:30-5 when I get home from work. When I am home with him, I walk him every 2 hours, after he wakes up from a nap, and after a heavy playing session. I've learned that a good rule of thumb is to know puppies can only really hold it the # of hours equal to their months in age.

It sounds like you have a good schedule going. All you can do is keep praising him and give him treats whenever he goes outside to potty and have patience as he grows!
I miss having a young puppy sometimes, but I don't miss the getting up in the middle of the night! :) |
Lucky for you it does. Unfortunately for a while you want to make sure everytime he acts likes he needs to go that you take him outside. Like ISUKappa said it will get better as he grows and he will get to a point that he will be able to make it all night.
I love puppies and these training days are so fun. |
Good luck with your pooch! Mine is now almost 8 mos old and he sits right in front of the door when he has to go potty. He's such a good boy! I miss when he was a puppy - he's 60 lbs now and still growing but I want him to be little again! :)

How to do a search
Click on the second control button from the right, that says "search."
Type in the phrase you are looking for. As an example, to find a thread on cute purses, type in "cute purses" or cute+purses." Select search. |
After awhile they get the idea that backdoor means outside...then they scratch on it or pace. The few dogs that I've had tend to do that as they get older, usually after a year or so.

OKAY now he has started doing something new the past 2 nites: HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE IN HIS CRATE AND CRIES AND WHINES. not just a little bit, the whole nite long. He woke me up every hour on the hour last night, I hardly got any sleep and I am at work today. I heard puppies go through a stage like this, kind of "seperation anxiety" from their owner. How long does this last? Plus he is too rambunctious to keep in the bed with me, so I am not going that route. He bit me on my nose last night too when I was playing with him, the little monster LOL

they say this works for cats and kittens but if you have a dog early as a puppy this will work too.... as far as saying no and being stern about it and he /she still wants to test you a spray bottle always worked for me. when my dog was a puppy and wanted to lift his leg or get into something and i said no i would squirt it and go running away
