Fetishist banned from hospitals

LONDON (Reuters) - A man with a fetish for medical items has become the first person to be banned from every hospital in England and Wales, the NHS says.

Rest of the story here

Interesting.

Is that something the government is allowed to do when we have socialized medicine?

"Interesting"! I'd heard that on the news today, that someone aged 53 had been banned from every NHS hospital and private clinic for life, but the story was different. They didn't mention the fetish for taking medical items and just said he was well known in the area for going to hospitals and being abusive and the last straw had been threatening staff with a knife so they asked for this measure via the courts.

Either way... scary! :D

I guess it must be. They're aren't denying him medical treatment though.

Yeah, just that all future surgery will have to be done outdoors :D

Maybe this is the total opposite of white coat phobia? I'd hate to be treating this guy and realize he's getting off on my white coat and latex gloves. What does he do for fun? Masturbate to ER or Scrubs?

At whoever asked if that 'was something the government was able to do when there was standardized medicine':

No, this is an exception. The banning was enforced via an antisocial behaviour order - a new (or rather recently modified) peice of legislation used for example in banning people from certain areas (youths from a shopping centre, for causing havoc etc or people from an area in a town). It's often used with 'families from hell' (e.g. in council housing) who make the lives of all the neighbors around them a misery, to make them re-locate. It's an extreme measure available to the courts and normally in the form of being bound over to keep to rules which if then broken have a severe penalty (like this).
It is unusual it was used in this way (it is for the first time) and has nothing to do with (/is not a part of) the Health Service.

swissmiss04, you have a white coat and gloves? A world of pervery I'll leave you alone in. :p

I worked at a mental health facility years ago, and there was a client who had a foot fetish. His greatest obsession was seeing women's bare feet. He would throw his partner's shoes away or damage them so she would have to throw them away. Summer time was an excruciating time for him. He could hardly go anywhere that he didn't feel compelled to masterbate after being confronted with sandals and bare feet anywhere he looked! I really felt bad for the guy. Medication helped him greatly, but his life was generally miserable. He was truly lucky to have a partner who loved and understood his illness (she did keep her favorite shoes etc locked in a closet he couldn't get into)

I imagine as this man's need for a hospital "fix" grows more desparate, he will eventually start hurting himself in order to satisfy his fixation. Perhaps therapy will teach him he can purchase these items to provide himself some relief (although I bet purloining them is part of the attraction) Hopefully medication will help.
