Is "30" the new "21"?

perspectives change as you age...

When I was seventeen, it was a very good year
It was a very good year for small town girls and soft summer nights
We'd hide from the lights on the village green
When I was seventeen

When I was twenty-one, it was a very good year
It was a very good year for city girls who lived up the stair
With all that perfumed hair and it came undone
When I was twenty-one

When I was thirty-five, it was a very good year
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls
Of independent means, we'd ride in limousines their chauffeurs would drive
When I was thirty-five

But now the days are short, I'm in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as vintage wine from fine old kegs
From the brim to the dregs, it poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year

Lessee... you can vote at 18, drink - legally - at 21, get a break on auto insurance, rent a car and run for the House of Representatives at 25, become eligible for the Senate at 30... and if you're native-born and 35, run for President. :)

mmcat is correct when she mentioned that perspectives change as you age... as I approach the big 4-0, I look at the things I did when I was eighteen and wonder what the hell went on in my mind at that time. Things I considered quite normal when I was 20 I'd look on with disapproval at 40.

You know in my recent practice class for grad school we were talking about life stages. My professor stated that some "theorists" believe 30 to be "middle-aged".

30 is the new 21 only as you approach (and pass) 21.

I was talking to someone who said that her husband (who is going through a midlife crisis) has a new hobby which is restoring/rebuilding a 1970 car that hasn't worked in years.
I said, "His midlife crisis is restoring a middle aged car."
She said,"Hey, I'm not middle aged!"
I said, "We're almost middle aged."

I find it funny when people think that 50 is middle aged. Do they really think that they will live until they are 100? I think that 38 to 39 is actually middle aged since the life expectancy in the US is 77.2.
