3 New England Public U's: PRO-Greek Actions and $$$ !
Large public universities in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine are taking decidedly pro-Greek actions, according to an Associated Press article in today's New York Newsday --
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wi...-regional-wire The article cites new support for strengthening and enlarging Greek life, encouraging students to consider going Greek, and supporting Greek housing. There's an implication that in the competition to attract students, a solid Greek system can be a plus. Hmmmmm -- an interesting change in direction for some of these universities. A Kappa Kappa Gamma, identified as the president of the sorority council at U. of Massachusetts-Amherst, is quoted in the article. |
Thank you for the link. My response to the article is DUH!! Finally, someone is seeing that there actually is a benefit to a strong Greek presence...perish the thought!!! :p

exlurker, this is simply amazing from the stand point of Colleges starting to change.:)
Within the last year, it seems that more schools are looing at Greek Courts and housing. Shorter College in Rome, Ga. asked Nationals to come to campus and absorb current Locals or Colonize. A few that I can think of off hand who are looking or are building Greek Housing: U Tn. Murfreesboro. SDSU, Cal Schools in Fl. Tx. and some others states. Hopefully there will be more expansion in the future. |
Thats going to be an amazing time at Umass for Greek life. Enjoy it folks

I'd love to forward this whole thing to the President at our University. He's very anti-Greek, as was the President before him (both had tried to shut down Greek systems at their previous presidency's).
I wonder how many other University presidents are quaking in their shoes over this. |

While this is great for the UMass system and the other schools mentioned, I wish ALL the state related universities in the area would do the same thing.

Agreed, but if some of the smaller schools keep going the way they are there won't be a Greek system left...they need help now. We've lost chapters up there partly due to stupid rules from the admins and just general Greek advisor incompetence, so I am not very patient.

Yeah go UMASS! I go to UMass Dartmouth and my freshmen year in 2001 there were only 3 orgs and this fall we will have 9 orgs.
