Directv or Dish Network?
Which do you have and which do you prefer? My mother, my sister and I are debating about this. I wanted to get Dish Network because they offer Nick GAS (Games and Sports Network) and GAC. My mother and my sister wanted Directv. I feel that if we get Directv, then I'll miss GAC. Directv refuse to put on Nick GAS on the lineup. I don't know why, but I think it is because of money issues to put the channel on the lineup. If you were getting satellite, which do you recommend?

I've got Dish Network and am pretty satisfied with it, even though we temporarily lost the Viacom channels (which includes CBS and MTV) for a couple of days because of a fee dispute. But Dish made up for it by crediting us a few bucks off the following month's bill.
Not that much difference in programming between Dish and DirectTV, other than the above channels you mention. Pricing packages are about the same as well. Whichever satellite provider you choose, be sure and get the digital video recorder package... greatest thing since canned beer! ;) |
We have Dish Network, and we're happy with it. Satellite is soooo much better than cable!

I have dish network the big plan. So i have my soapnet , DIY, and HBO and cinemax....i wish they had oxygen on it to catch oprah after the show.
When we lost viacom those few days i didnt miss cbs but missing nickelodeon to a 4 yr is a hard thing....they mailed in the next months statement a free certificate for a PPV / On demand movie and credit. I like it until it is windy out and loose connection...really no complaints though...cheaper than regular cable provider. |
I've had Dish Network for 3 years-- only time it goes out was during a heavy snow (and how often does THAT happen in Texas???) and during bad thunderstorms (usually about 2 minutes before the power goes out). That's more reliable than cable was back home... when it went out, it was usually out for at least a day not the few minutes that the satellite takes. The Dish PVR is great. I don't record to the VCR anymore. If I really want to keep a copy of a show, I can edit out the commercials while I'm taping it. There are a few channels that are different... Direct TV has more sports packages (that's why you'll see it in the sports bars). I have the "America's Everything" package. It's cheaper than cable and I love having both east and west feeds for HBO/ Showtime. Basically, I have Dish because the satellite dish was already installed when I bought the house. If I was looking now, I'd do a side-by-side comparison of both services. Direct TV has Oxygen and Trio (and Dish doesn't) but Dish has GAS, which is something you'd want.... you never can predict what channels they'll add. I started with 150 channels plus premiums... now it's 180 plus premiums.

I used to sell 'em both.
It just depends on the channel configuration you want. Write down the channels that you must have, then go look. As far as quality, etc. they're about the same. |
