fake sororities?

Guys, I dunno if this has been discussed...I looked, couldn't find a thread...

But why do so many of you have fake sorority letters in your sigs? Like Gamma Gamma, Sigma Gamma, and I've seen others too. And many of you took out your REAL sorority letters. Is this some joke I missed out on or something? LOL :)

Thanks!

Doesn't stand for very much.

Also a combination of influencing factors such as a) the ill-fated suggestion of Gamma Chi and online greek group which got bogged down in arguments and folded b) teasing response to suggestions of a trend of clique-ness and c) group of online friends (who may've met in real life) wanting to highlight that affinity.

Removal of actual GLO letters also influenced by a feeling comments may reflect upon the org or the org may be judged or thought of on basis of comments made and people are reluctant to do this. So they remove them and can be as bad as they like. :p

Or, to put ALL of that another way... Q) Is this some joke I missed out on or something? YES.

Basically, I think it's one of those things that if you don't get it, then that's the point. Only those who have it in their sig's know (or really care) what it stands for.
Pretty much. ;)

Well, here's a thought. Maybe if you say something bad w/o your letters in your signature, it doesn't reflect on your org. But it still reflects on Greeks. So why do it?

Oh well. Guess my OWN letters are good enough for me. :)

Because even though YOU don't think it's bad, or it really ISN'T necessarily bad, someone from your HQ or another member of your group might think otherwise.

For example, if I say that I think gay marriage is the greatest thing since sliced bread, that isn't really a "bad" thing to say, but someone from my HQ or another sister might be offended to see their letters attached to that opinion. People are respecting the different opinions among members of their GLO.

Ahh, Stan... maybe I'm dense but I finally got your signature and I full-heartedly stand next to you and support your cause. Well, at least not in the past couple of months...:D

I can totally see that. And I agree in that sense.

But what I meant was that IF GCers are taking out their letters so they can say "bad things", that still makes Greeks look bad, and you shouldn't do that just so you can shoot your mouth off. :) But, taking letters out so you can express opinions about touchy subjects? Then yes, perfectly understandable, and I would do it too. So I can definately see that.

How abouts you just quit dipping in the koolaid okie?

Seriously, some people have put these "letters" in their sigs and have said or done nothing wrong they are just doing it for the sake of doing it. Besides, some of these people never had their own letters in their sigs anyway. It appears that many people on GC don't.

And on top of that, people can and should do what they feel they want to do and if they don't want their letters assoicated with it, by all means let them get down.

p.s. not all people on GC are greek...

GeekyPenguin 05-29-2004 11:56 PM

sairose, what if I said that I thought you made Greeks look bad?

People use their signature to express their own thoughts. Maybe OTW truly identifies with SG and it means something to her, or maybe she just thought they had a cool mascot and mixed with the best frats.

Have you ever heard of Chapter letters

Since you used the example of Gamma Gamma, I will address your accusation. I am an Alpha Phi from Gamma Gamma chapter of A-Phi that was at Drury U. in Springfield, MO. I use Gamma Gamma in my signature because I am proud of my chapter! I am not trying to hide behind anything! It has meaning to me, so please don't assume the negative and give the people the benefit of the doubt.

I might be wrong here but I think Sairose was just curious. I don't think she was saying that anyone was wrong for having these different letters in their signatures, she was just wondering if she missed something. I am not trying to get in anyone's business but some of the responses I have read are kinda mean. That's all I have to say, have a nice day!:D

Nah, I think it was pretty easy to sense the condescending tone of her posts with the whole "here's a thought" blah blah blah nonsense...

I don't think anyone is talking about chapter letters. This is a totally different issue.
