Recruitment Skit
Hey girls!
I am the Membership Director for Rho Alpha, and I was looking for a fun up-to-date skit to use for recruitment this fall. I have received so many different skits that nationals have compiled, but I haven't really been passionate about a particular one. I'm open to anything! Just trying to get my hands on all the possibilities. Thanks so much... hope everyone is having a good summer!! :) Tessa |
Last recuitment, we did a Saved By The Bell theme- it was ridiculously funny- we wrote a script about how the girls wanted to join the Bayside Babes Club and how Zack and Slater had a bet that Zack couldn't get Screech in the club. Anyone not in the skit was wearing a tshirt with the SBTB logo on it and "Skit Night 2004" on the back. I still can't believe I wore that wig...
Pictures at: http://homepages.bw.edu/~wwwphimu/ under the sisterhood section- I'm Slater lol |
I'm the membership dir. at Delta Omega and here are a few we've used:
Wizard of Oz Motto: Welcome H(phi)ME Skit: Dorothy is trying to find a place where she belongs at school, Scarecrow represents Scholarship (she gets brains), Tinlady Philanthropy (she gets a heart from helping CMN) and Lion Leadership (running for king of the forrest but needs help). Glinda shows Dorothy when she gets to Oz that she didn;t have to go looking for a someplace to belong, it was inside of her all along i.e. Phi Mu: Its not what you become but who you always were. Decorations: Ranbow stuff ranbow balloon arches Philanthropy Activity: We made rainbow have a great day cards for our local CMN hyospital and delivered them there Chicago Motto: We Just Can't Do it Alone or You Can Like The Life your Living, You Can Live the Life You Like Skit: Velma and Roxie both come into the Phi Mu Vaudville Theatre to practice their routine. They argue about who should get the stage. Velma (representing the leadership/social) says she should get to practice because she has so many loyal fans who always come to watch her (sisters) and she always has SOOO much fun on stage and leading her group of dancers. Roxie (representing philanthropy/scholarship) says she ahouls be allowed to practice because she dances to raise money for CMN and she always works so hard to to her best at her preformances, that's why she does so well (if you have a good GPA stat, transfer it here, i.e. my dancers have been the best at learning for the past 4 semesters). The argue a bunch and then a stage hand comes out and says, you both have so much to offer, why don;t you work together! Then a song and dance number to I just can't do it alone from the musical. Grease Motto: You're The One that I Want Skit Ideas: Pink Ladies and the freshmen at the high school. They show them what they have to offer and then it goes into your the one that I want. hope that helps! feel free to PM me if you want a script to them, I know I can get Chicago and Wiz of Oz... Grease may take a little digging. We also did one called Phi Mu Jug Band using the "Thank God I'm a Phi Mu" song.. I've never done it, but I might be able to find someone with a script of some sorts if you're interested |
How long is your skit and how many songs/dances do you typically have in it?
Last year, we did a really cute Gap/shopping themed skit called The Perfect Fit- girls LOVED it! But it's only about 10 to 15 minutes and has one song (more like a jingle, really)- because our campus is transitioning skits out of Recruitment. However, if you still wanted to see it, I'm sure you could work with it and make it longer or add a song or two. PM me if you're interested. |
PLEASE, send me a copy of the Wizard of OZ!! That sounds sooo cute!!!!
My e-mail is jiffaney @yahoo.com |
We did Wizard of Oz one year and it was really cute. We had light blue tshirts and on the front in the corner it had a pair of sparkley pink shoes. On the back in dark blue writing it said "There's No Place Like Home". The O and M were Phi and Mu and in pink sparkly print.
Last year my chapter did something like Queen of the Jungle. It was pretty cool but I don't remember what the skit was. |
Wow, it sounds like you ladies have a lot of fun doing skits - none of the sororities, ourselves included, do skits as part of our Recruitment Week. It would be cool if we did. :)

Last year, we did "Alice in Phi Mu land"
It was really cute. It started out with Alice and Dina on the first night of recruitment. The Greek Life Advisor was explaining what recruitment was like and Alice fell asleep. A white rabbit jumped through the room saying, "I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date" Alice got up and started chasing the rabbit. The rabbit got away, but Alice found a Phi Mu badge that the rabbit had dropped. She put it on and went looking for the Rabbit. She came across the very ADD-like Chesire Lion (who was on top of a coke machine decorated to look like a tree) The Chesire Lion got distracted while talking to Alice by the 'shiny object' and asked about it. When Alice described it, the Chesire Lion realized it was the Phi Mu badge, and while she didn't know what it meant, the pink carnations knew more because they were Phi Mus. Alice then went on her way to find the Pink Carnations. The white rabbit ran back through. While Alice was chasing her, she got intercepted by the Mad Hatter and... another character who told her about how much sisterhood meant...They fed her a cookie which made her shrink, and in turn, the badge got larger (we used a paper copy of the badge that was much larger) She got to the pink carnations, all of which had different personalities (athletic, funny, smart, prissy, etc) who told her more about Phi Mu. When she left, she ate another cookie and was back to normal size. The White Rabbit ran through one more time, but then the queen of hearts (who played the greek life advisor," came back in and said "off with their heads," and whispered "not really, i'm just suppose to say that" her and alice then processed what had happened and alice said that she had found the place where she belonged. Alice went back to her seat, woke up and after a conversation with Dina, left the room. They came back in like it was bid day in all of their Phi Mu gear. Once the group broke up, the white rabbit walked in and said, "man, I knew I was going to be late" We then went back up around the walls (which were very decorated with paper trees and flowers and such) and did a dance to a song by the Cheetah Girls that went like this--"Cheetah Sisters" [Verse 1:] Theres a time when we all choose To either quit or follow through To just loose faith Or trust your heart To somehow lead you through the dark You're not the only one who's dreamin' And who needs help to carry on We might get lonely but we're not alone [Guitar Solo] [Chorus:] Cause we are sisters We stand together We make up one big family though we dont look the same Despite our Different Different colors We make each other stronger That ain't ever gonna change We're Phi Mu girls, Phi Mu sisters [Verse 2:] Gotta do what we gotta do Got the brains, got the power and we speak the truth We're from everywhere around the world So ya best respect the Phi Mu girls Dancin, singin from our birth Workin hard for what we deserve Trying not to break the rules Cause mama didnt raise no fools It may seem we're only dreamin And we need help to carry on Its good to know we're not alone [Chorus:] Cause we are sisters We stand together We make up one big family though we dont look the same Despite our different Different colors We make each other stronger That ain't ever gonna change Believe it mister We're Phi Mu girls Phi Musisters [Bridge:] Someone's always there behind To catch us if we fall [Chorus:] Cause we are sisters We stand together We make up one big family though we dont look the same Despite our Different Different colors We make each other stronger That ain't ever gonna change Believe it mister We're Phi Mu girls Phi Mu sisters All the characters from the skit had a solo dance. It was really cute! Our theme for this year is going to be good, too... but b/c we have spring recruitment, it is still under wraps. |
does anyone have that Wizard of Oz script still? I would love to get a copy of it please.

do you still have the skit or know anyone who migth have the zizard of oz skit? |
I personally think (and this is from someone who has never had a "skits" recruitment so take it for what it is) that skits can be pretty tacky and a waste of valuable discussion time. The costumes and props can add up in costs and if it goes off poorly then you may be left with nothing. (Also if your campus panhellenic doesn't allow it then you can't do it to begin with).
Why don't you try something like a conversational focus workshop instead? Ask girls questions that they would like to be asked in recruitment. And make a booklet to help members get good and real answers from the PNMs. Knowing the pnms and making a concious effort to get to know them will help your chapter stand out more than any skit will. |
so no one has that wizard of oz skit.. i could really use it.

Also, I just posted on the GC Recruitment forum about one of my favoirte skits we did back in the 1990s that could easily be updated for today if you are not set on the whole Wizard of Oz thing. PM me if you need a better description. |

Phi Kappa's Chicago Skit
Phi Kappa does a "Chicago" themed skit and it's known as the best one on campus (if we do say so ourselves! Not that the others aren't great, too!).
We start with All That Jazz, which we re-wrote to be about sisterhood and how much fun we have together. In the skit we're trying to cheer a sister up who's been "a little blue" Then we go to "Roxy" but we changed the lyrics to "The name on everybody's lips is gonna be Phi Mu". It's a really great song, actually. After that is "I can't do it alone" about the double act of sisterhood- there's a lot of dancing in this one, and the rushees love it because we talk about the fraternities. we end with "they both reached for the gun" which we re-wrote to talk about Philanthropy and our motto, love honor truth (said about 98075249853 times during the song.) it's tough to learn, but with the marionette act, it's really fun and hilarious if anyone wants a copy, I can message it to you. Just to give the other sororities on our campus credit, Alpha Chi Omega does a Flinstone's theme, Phi Sigma Sigma does Grease and Delta Zeta does DZ Cafe theme (like the Hard Rock cafe). Hope this helps! |
