how did you meet your significant other?

Though I have my tough exterior sometimes, I'm a hopeless romantic too. I know many of you are married, will-be or are in relationships, etc. I was wondering how you met your significant others?

Since I don't have a boyfriend or anything like that, I'll share the story of how my parents met because I love this story. Both my parents went to Kansas University and my mom was taking a creative writing class and they were planning to publish a newspaper type deal. One night while they were gathered at the professor's house, my dad walked in, holding two bottles of tequila in paper bags (my dad is 6' 4" about 250 pounds (at the time) with brown hair and eyes) He started yelling about how they had to "get the show on the road" so that he could go out and party. My mom said she thought he was the most obnoxious man she's ever met in her entire life and they argued the entire time they worked on the paper. She later told me that she knew that she was completely in love with him when he first came into the room.

My parents were involved in a terrible car accident soon after on their way to Topeka to get the published papers. My mom was thrown into the front seat and her head was split open (but she was ok) My Grandpa said that my mom lost her mind and that's when she fell in love with my dad.

My dad said it was his charm, good looks... and his motorcycle haha

so what are your stories?

That's so cute about your parents!!! Mine met on a blind date, and my dad later told the guy who fixed him up that he was going to marry my mama. He was in the Navy, stationed at Norfolk, VA, and rather than break a date with my mama when his car broke down, (and he couldn't get a train or plane), he took a taxi to keep the date!! The day my daddy died, he had doodled my mama's name earlier in the day. *sigh*

I met mr. honeychile at a soccer convention (the United Soccer Boosters Convention) in St. Louis. I didn't know many people who would be there, but I had heard about him, and that he would have a car. We were introduced, and I told him a Grateful Dead joke (he was wearing tie-dye), and he laughed. I then told him that I was just being nice to him because he had a car. He still tells me that he was impressed with my confidence (etc)!

I met my husband when I was in the dorms visiting another guy I was kind of seeing. I was upset because I was having problems w/ school administration (imagine that!), and it was 2 in the afternoon or so. I was screaming and cussing the administrators and he walks into the room holding a beer. I looked up at him and said, "Don't you think it's a little early for that?" He told me it was never too early, but I looked like I needed one myself! The thing w/ the other guy kind of fizzled, but Mike and I remained friends and eventually it turned into something more. It's so funny because we both have so many mutual friends, we should have met way before we actually did. There are 2 or 3 times that we can both recall being at the same place, but like w/in 5 minutes of each other. We both believe we were destined to be together, because if we had met on one of those earlier occasions, we wouldn't have been ready for each other.

It's really funny because he and I were both in marching band in HS. He, however, grew up in NC and I grew up in FL. Well, my marching band competed nationally, as did his, and there were a few competitions where we competed against each other. Since he's only a year older than me, we were both there at the same time - years before we ever met. How funny is that!

Now, if you want to hear how he proposed, that's a completely different story. ;)

I met Mr. ZTAngel while I was at his fraternity's party. I was in one of the rooms with my sorority sister. He was standing in the corner with his fraternity brothers. She went over to say hi to him since they were friends. He looked dead sexy. :) I did my drunken stumble over to where they were standing and practically fell on top of him. He caught me. I slurred to my sorority sister, "He's cute. Introduce me." The rest is history.

Moral of the story: If you're normally too shy to talk to cute boys, get drunk. You will no longer feel any shame. ;)

I also don't have a SO so i will tell my parents story.

My mum came to Canada from England in 1972 with one of her best friends. They came here for fun and adventure.

My Dad is a DU from the University of Toronto and the DU's often rented out their house to other groups for parties. One night the Du's had rented out the house to a Rugby team for a party and my Mum happened to be there as were some of the DU's.

My dad spotted my mum across the room and asked her dance. Then ended up spending the whole night talking to each other and that very night he told her he loved her.

They have been together ever since. Married 29 years.

For all those people who say you can't meet anyone worthwhile in the bar, I can prove them wrong.
One of my best friends had turned 21 over Spring break, so when he, I and another friend got back into town early, we wanted to take him to his first Pullman bar. We went, the friday night of spring break, and the bar was empty except for us and the bartender. The bartender sat down and talked with us the whole time, and after a little while, asked me for my phone number. It was so cute. After he closed the bar, he hung out with us all night, and that was it! We're still together and I love telling people I met my boyfriend in the bar!

We met at the bar in Antigua in downtown Orlando. She was with her friend Nicole and I was with my friend Tony. I noticed her across the bar from me because of her hair (It's light blonde). We made eye contact and next thing I know I'm pounding drinks with my boy and she shows up right next to me and we start talking. Within 10 minutes I realized what a cool chick she was but could already tell I wasnt getting any ass from her that night. In fact, after talking to her for about 30 minutes I didnt think we'd ever have sex. It turned out that she went to highschool with two of my DG exes from UF back in Ft. Lauderdale (which was really wierd) and knows them really well. Being as I thought one of my exes may have been a lil'whore in highschool, I didnt think Rachel and I would hit it off too well. Turns out she thought they were really pretty and liked them. So, one drink turned into another and another and another and then it turned into Jaegermeister shots. I had planned on bouncing all around downtown to find some ass but instead I stayed right there talking to her. My boy was so pissed because he didnt like her friend Nicole ;) At the end of the night she had me take down her number and said to call her in 20 minutes after we got in the car. I ended up calling her an hour later. I don't know why, but we must have talked for 2+ hours on the phone about everything that could have possibly been in our heads. I remember being turned on to the fact that she knew a lot about progressive/trance/house/break beat music as I did and actually knew a lot of DJs on top of being in ZTA.....and she was hot. I remember thinking she was sooooo my type of chick except she's 5' 6 or 7. She helped get me over the height thing real quick. :D

I met him in a bar. He called me at 7:30 AM the next day, but I had left for work. He called later that evening and asked me out. It's not a really romantic story.

Ok I have a couple I have to tell because I think they are great....
First may parents are such the American Pie couple. They met at Band Camp in high school. He asked her to home coming and the rest is history. He also would hold her hand until they had been dating for 6 months. He was shy. They have been married for 37 years.
My best friend also met her husband at a bar. She was the shot girl at a bar in Chico and he and one of his friends made a bet to see which one could get a date with her first. No he didn't win but he did end up marrying her 6 years later.
And as for me (boring) my boss set us up. We were at a trade show and one of the booths was handing out long stems roses. He got all of his co-workers to go up and get a rose so that he could give them to me when he asked me out on a date. 6 years later we were married.

That could be a thread of its own, as I have a good engagement story, too! :)

well, i met my bf online. but it wasn't anything, we would just chat every so often. and we would always say "oh yeah, we can meet up sometime" cause we only lived 45 mins away. but never would really try to do anything. he would talk about going to the shooting range cause he collects guns and i've never been to one or shot a gun. so he would say that if he went that he would let me know and if i wanted to go that it was ok cause it was halfway between us. on jan 5th of this year, we were online chatting and were both bored, so he said, "hey do you want to go to the shooting range?", and i was like "sure. i don't have anything else to do" so i went and i was a lil late cause i got lost. he said that when i first walked through the door, he was just speechless that he forgot what his name was. and that he was so shocked because he thought i looked so beautiful and so his type. when we finished shooting, we went outside and he wanted to hang out more. so he nervously asked me if i wanted to go back to his place to hang out and watch some movies. i said sure cause i was having fun and he was a nice guy. i followed him back to his place, and we just laid in bed (fully clothed. lol.) didn't watch the movies and talked for hours! he didn't make any moves or anything. and in the morning we went and got bagels and ate them at the park by the beach. and when i left, he gave me a little tiny tiny tiny kiss cause he wanted me to know he was interested. and since then, we've been together almost everyday. moved in and all. he's the best bf i've ever had. and i'm the best gf he's ever had. what's funny is how random it was, cause we were both talking to a couple of other people and never really looking to hook up with eachother. and out of coincidence, we ended up at the shooting range to pick up some mace on our 4 month anniversary. it was cute. it goes to show you that the best things come when you least expect them :D

We met in eighth grade when I was the "new girl" at school. He sat next to me in English. :)

aephi alum 05-25-2004 07:47 PM

I met Mr. aephi alum during my freshman year of college. For a long time, I knew him only as a friend of a friend. Our mutual friend (my sorority sister) tried to get us together a couple of times, but somehow it didn't happen.

Fast forward a couple of years and a few bad relationships (for each of us) later. His dorm was hosting a party, and on a whim, I decided to go - more to hang out with friends and have fun than to meet a guy. So at the party, he and I got to talking, kept talking, talked some more... then the sun rose... and we've been together ever since. :)

He was my lab partner in biology. At the end of the quarter, I told him that if he asked me to coffee, I wouldn't say "no." He asked me to coffee (during finals week) and we've been dating for the past 14 months even tho he wound up moving 300 miles away for grad school...
