Role of a Sweetheart?
 

This might seem like a petty question, but what is the role of a fraternity sweetheart?

I was honored with the title this year, not because I brought cookies to their meetings, or because I'm dating a brother, but because I sincerely love the brothers of the organization.

I intend to continue to support the organization by attending events, rushing boys for them, and just looking out (boys will be boys)... but I feel like now that I have been "deemed" sweetheart, I should go all out.

I don't want to turn into one of those girls that go into their meetings just to bring them cookies, or to say hello, if I do something for them I want it to be different, as well as sincere.

I REALLY want to congratulate the new E-board, and make/bring them something as a token of good luck for the forthcoming year...

Anyone have any input?

It means that a good portion of the chapter has major sexual tension, resolved or unreolved towards you.

i know of a fraternity who had a sweethart named after their flower and the only reason they picked her is because she had sex with the majority of the fraternity

i have not slept around within this chapter...

i am regarded to as one of the "boys"...

i rationalize their behavior and keep them out of trouble...

why didn't i see this coming?! :(

A sweetheart is one who is voted on by the brothers because of her contribution to the chapter. for example: helping out with rush.

In my experience, nothing. Or whatever you want it to be.

That is to say, there was no expected "role" for our sweethearts (like many other groups, we can have only one at a time). It was an honor we wished to give them.

So I say do whatever seems natural and appropriate to you.

A lot of my sisters have been sweethearts for different fraternities on campus and here are a few ideas that they did:

Make dinner for the e-board, the boys will enjoy a home cooked meal

Volunteer your house/apartment for a party

Remember birthdays, make sure every brother in the chapter gets a card on their birthday, if you leave one out it will be bad news

help during rush with whatever they need, whether its running to Walmart for last minute things or greeting rushees at the door

Help them with any of their events, philanthropies whatever

If your chapter of DPhiE and the fraternity aren't that close, be a bridge between the two, introduce your sisters to the guys and vice versa, encourage your social chair to organize some sort of social or mixer

For the E-board, you can handmake them small gifts, or I know one sweetheart who went and got keychains engraved with each eboard officers bond number and the Fraternity letters, be creative!

We have a sweetheart program for our sorority. The guys we nominate and select have gotten really into it. Our last one would come to our first informal recruitment event and introduce himself. He brought goodies to meetings and other events and on holidays. He knew everyone's name, b-day and even got to know some of the alumnae. The night before retreat, he would go over to where the new members were having their sleepover and bring them dinner while they studied.

Helping with rush was a big one. If say during informal recruitment you have a girl walk up to your booth with her bf and the bf is interested in a fraternity, you can quietly recommend your fraternity. Don't blow it out of proportion and tell him he has to join. Just say, hey, if you are interested, I know of some really cool guys in ABC fraternity. Check them out.

Also, you can help plan fun events, like BBQs and grab-a-dates and whatnot.

It just depends what you want to put into it.

i just wanted to thank everyone for their input, i really like the whole keyring/chain idea... i'm going to see if i can get a quote on that!

For the most part, i'm very supportive of their chapter already, so helping plan or decorate events has already been part of my repertoire for the past few years...

i just wanted to know if there was something that the sweethearts DON'T do that the boys might want to see them do ... like something we haven't thought of yet

in regards to taking any offense, please dont worry about me... i REALLY don't get offended very easily, and if by chance i do, it will be apparent.. i can't sugar coat my sarcasm!;)
