Sopranos

Well, I searched and found no thread dedicated to the Sopranos, much to my surprise.

Did anybody watch tonight? What an episode! What's Tony going to do about Tony B.? Will we know next episode?

And Adrianna... I figured it was inevitable, but they had ME fooled with the story about Christopher! I thought maybe he'd really done that.

WOW!

Spoilers!

Spoiler space (tonight's episode recap):

Tony and Carmella got back together, with him promising not to cheat and her asking for a $600,000 piece of property to build a spec house on with her dad. She's bored and wants to start a business. Valentina was being discharged from the hospital and Tony was going to take her home but she got mad because he was going back to Carmella and he just left.

Tony B., after killing Philly's son, is on Johnny Sack's hit list. They called a sit down with Tony S. who told them that Tony B. was in hiding and he didn't know where he was (the truth). Johnny Sack said if he didn't deliver Tony B., then he would take another family member, looking at Christopher.

A body was found of a guy who was murdered in Adrianna's club. The FBI pulled her into the office, said they knew she knew about it and tried to cover it up (had video of her disposing of some of the evidence). They gave her two choices.. 25 years for obstructing justice or wearing a wire. She refused to wear a wire but said she thought she could get Christopher to flip. She told Christopher everything and he punched her in the face, then was choking her, but stopped before she died. She proposed the witness protection program and he said he needed to think, but she thought he was going for it. She told the FBI agent that they would be coming in that day. Christopher left to "buy cigarettes". While filling up his Hummer, he saw this lower class kinda guy driving a bum car with his two kids and just stared. Next scene is Tony S. calling Adrianna to tell her that Christopher had attempted suicide and was in the hospital. Silvio was picking her up and taking her to the hospital. Silvio took her to the woods and shot her as she tried to crawl/run away. Christopher dumped her suitcase in an empty lot and left her car in long term parking. FBI isn't sure whether she's dead or whether she left town. The drug dealer who murdered the other guy *might* be involved in terrorism. Adrianna had told the FBI that he sells drugs and sends all the money back to his family in Pakistan.

Tony S. had a trace put on his phone so if Tony B. called him, he could find out where he was. He found out that he was on Uncle Pat's farm property. He met with Johnny Sack and asked if he could take care of it himself and Johnny Sack said no. Tony said "Can you make sure it's quick?" and Johnny said that Philly was going to do it and he would do it his way. Tony told him to "f" himself and left.

Previews for next week show Johnny Sack saying that Philly is losing it and they show a lot of shots of Philly looking really pissed off. Voice over was "Hell hath no fury like a family scorned".

They re-play the episode again tonight at 10 pm EDT on HBO2 and usually again on Saturday night too. The season finale isn't on for two weeks... not sure why they are skipping next weekend, maybe ratings are low on the Sunday of the holiday weekend. I'm going to watch it again tonight.

For a minute I thought Christopher might have taken up Ade on the offer, considering all the grief he's been put through the past few episodes with Tony Blundetto. Looks like that wasn't the case.

Johnny Sack and Tony's family are about to 'go to the mattresses' (mob speak for a gang war, from the days when the crews holed up in sparsely furnished apartments armed to the teeth) It's gonna be vicious, violent and bloody... just like any other Sopranos climax.

My silly wild-ass guesses as to what might happen in the season finale:

It's a given Tony B's gonna get whacked... whether by Tony or by Johnny Sack's capo Philly we'll have to find out.

Christopher's falling off the wagon isn't making him points with Tony, and could become hazardous to his health. Though we do have a glimpse of him in the finale pledging his loyalty to the family like a Roman soldier about to go to battle.

FBI... blackmail? Nahhh! They just gave an offer Adrianna just couldn't refuse after all that time straddling the fence.

And then we gotta wait for another 18 months to see what might be the series sixth and last season...

Peaches-n-Cream 05-24-2004 05:47 PM

I knew that they were going to whack Adriana. It really upset me watching the episode knowing it was going to happen.

Tony didn't promise to be faithful. He promised Carmella not to let his midlife crisis interfere with their family. That made me laugh.

All in all I think this season was pretty mediocre. The episodes have been slow. I think that Steve Buscemi was the best part of the season.

From what I understand, the sixth season may be the last one for Tony Soprano and his crew. Unless HBO makes David Chase an offer he can't refuse.

(waiting with bated breath until June 6th... sounds like a full-scale mob war is in the works!)

From what I've read, Season 6 is going to be it. HBO talked them into 10 episodes for Season 6 because there is some sort of minimum number of episodes for a show to run in syndication and they are making exactly that many episodes. Chase has said that he planned on 5 seasons and many alt.tv.sopranos news group have suggested that some of these "filler" episodes, like the dream sequence from last week and the one where Tony meets his dad's old mistress are there because Chase had to find material to cover an extra 10 episodes. The folks on that usenet group are total Sopranos fans and analyze every little thing on there!

I taped this week's episode and I'm going to watch it again. I especially want to watch next weeks previews, frame by frame.

DeltAlum may be able to answer this better, since he's in TV production, but for a show to make money in syndication, there should be at least fifty episodes, since they're generally sold in blocks to local TV stations and networks.

Fifty episodes are nice to have, 75 even better, but the big money makers are the shows with 100 or more episodes in the can. With a strong fan base and cult following, the syndicators (and the cast and some of the crew, if they have residual rights) can make a decent amount of money. The popularity of DVDs also helps, too.

Example: Hawaii Five-O - around 275 episodes over 12 years (I think Law and Order (the original series, not the spinoffs) has 'em beat by now)

Tony B is my favorite character on the show now. I really want Christopher to get whacked -- that guy is an ass.

I think that Christopher will overdose. I think Tony B will get whacked.

That sounds plausible... Tony B's definitely gonna get whacked by Philly... and it sure as sh*t ain't gonna be a 'not in the face' honorable whacking.

If Christopher doesn't OD falling off the wagon, he'll wind up either doing something that will get him killed off in Season 6.

winneythepooh7 06-06-2004 07:44 PM

I heard rumors Christopher is going on the spin-off show "Joey" as Adriana's character's boyfriend. I guess she is playing Joey's sister on that show.

Some of my friends and I feel that in the last season, Tony is going to totally change his life around and "go into hiding" hence the name of "Soprano".....he is going to cut a deal and tell all he knows to the FBI to save his ass.
