Random Question

A friend of mine is going to Brigham Young University this fall. I was curious to know if there are any sororities and/or fraternities at that particular campus.
If anyone has this info, it would be greatly appreciated!

Try greekpages.com!

It gets a little out dated, but go to the School site and look normally in current students and go from there!:D

You have GOT to be kidding!!! Sororities and fraternities at BYU?? The University affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ie, the Mormons?? I don't know a lot about the place other than they MAY still require chaperones on all dates for freshmen students!

Wasn't one of the Real Worlder's (Julie) invited NOT to return to school there after her season was on TV?? RW showed that she violated the school regulation about living with the opposite sex while unmarried.

No, you can be assured that your friend will not find any traditional, social type GLOs at BYU.

lol. sounds like a certain school that i am familiar with...

Yeah. I didn't think so. They are a VERY strict & religious school so to be associated with a Greek organization is not a good thing for them.
Oh well. Their loss.

The rules that most sororities have I think would go very well with some of the rules that BYU has... (men not allowed in certain areas of the house or after certain times... alcohol policies etc... it's just that some aren't enforced as much as at other schools, but I'm sure they would be if these orgs. existed at BYU ... I don't think they have any fraternities or sororities... but I wouldn't *think* that it's because they think they couldn't control them...

smiley21 05-23-2004 10:45 PM

one reason is because it doesnt line up with their beliefs

I read looooooong ago in "From Here to Fraternity" that there is (or was then) a Mormon sorority called "Lambda Delta Sigma", which it was said stood for "Latter Day Saints".

I read this when I was a college freshman though, so this may or may not still hold true.

No, there are no GLOs on the BYU campus. This and other Mormon related information is discussed in this thread:

To add to the above (because I have the "From Here to Fraternity" book), LDS chapters *do* exist, just not at any BYU campuses. They are also male counterparts...I seem to remember Tau and Beta being the letters (3 letters total).

mormons

they used to have a fraternity for returned missionaries, and it
was called Delta Phi or something like that. They finally learned
that there was an NIC fraternity by that name so they changed it
to Delta Phi Kappa, I think....
At any rate, they had several chapters of the club on the BYU campus...kinda like having several chapters of one outfit, and
I think there are campuses in the US which have an A and a B
but at any rate, don't get too excited.
BYU has a reasonably good rep, but they kinda march to their
own drummer....Bob Jones U in S Carolina is another.
Don't count on a traditional Greek experience here...unless the
LDS hierarchy has a revelation or two....(sarcasm)
