Need some advice ...
My husband and I just found out yesterday that we're going to have a baby! I'm six weeks pregnant!! I'm so excited because this is our first child, but I'm also so so sick. So, besides saltine crackers and gingerale, are there any other good morning sickness remedies? At this point, I would pretty much eat dirt to make the nausea go away ...
Thanks so much! L&L, Ashley |
first off -- CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
I can't say I know of any of those remedies b/c I've never been there myself, but I wish you, your husband and future little bundle of joy the best! :) |
I wish I could offer you some advice Ashley but I've never been pregnant. What I can say though is
CONGRATULATIONS |
Congratulations!
Morning sickness unfortunately doesn't just come in the morning. It can sometimes make you sick the whole day round! Try eating smaller, more frequent meals. Also, keep some sort of crackers at your bedside to nibble on before you get out of bed in the morning. This will make sure you're not moving around on an empty stomach. Remember to drink lots and lots and lots of water through out your whole pregnancy. You should always be carrying around somoe sort of water bottle with you especially in the hot summer months. Congrats again. |
Congratulations, and here's to a healthy pregnancy & baby!!
When I was pregnant, I had horrible morning sickness - 24/7. The crackers are good, but you'll probably find something else that works well, too. I sucked on Spanish olives a lot, and I've also heard of lemons & peppermint. But you need the crackers to keep things settled. Be sure to listen to our Forum nurses!! |
Congrats!!!
I know the feeling! I am currently 23 weeks pregnant (also with my 1st) and I couldn't wait for the morning (a.ka. all day) sickness to end! I found that cutting a lemon in 1/2 and smelling it would help. Honestly though, for the first 3 months I hardly ate anything but strawberry jello and saltine crackers. I never had more than the nausea though...hopefully you won't either. Best advice I got, was not to let my stomach be empty. I always felt the worst on an empty stomach. Also--don't be afraid to let your husband pamper you a little as well as do things for himself. There's nothing worse than cooking a meal when you feel like dirt. Don't feel bad at all about coming home from work and heading straight for bed!! But once you get through the 1st trimester...things will likely settle down and you'll be back to your normal eating self. Good luck!! Congrats!! |
Thanks so much for all of your well wishes and advice! Reading all of your responses made me almost cry. Of course, everything makes me cry these days. Anyway, it makes me so happy to know that I have sisters that are so accessible online. Thanks again!!

Ashley,
I just wanted to add my congratulations to the others shared on this thread. I've never been pregnant, so I couldn't tell you how to fight the nausea, but it sounds like you're getting some great advice from others here on the board. Congrats again! L&L, Jennie ETA: Congratulations also to Jen....I had a total brain fart when posting yesterday! :p |
Ditto on the never being pregnant thing--but congrats to Jen and Ashley! Wishing you both little legacies!! :)

I also don't have any advice, but congratulations!!

Yipppeee! Good for both of you and congratulations! I have one word for morning sickness- PHENERGEN. I'm not sure if I spelled that right but it is medication (suppository). I have never been so glad to have a suppository as when I was puking my guts out while pg. (Not to be gross or anything- but those are just the facts!). It was the only thing that helped me. It didn't eliminate the sickness, but it made it so I was able to go to work. OK, so I threw up in my lunch box the whole way home, but at least I could still drive while barfing. Women go through all sorts of fun things......
Also my favorite book while pg was "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy." The author's last name is Iovine. It was the most "real" book I read and didn't make you feel guilty when you want to have a brownie instead of something healthy. I found "What to Expect When You're Expecting" to be informative but a little too over-the-top for my taste. Goodluck & we'll pray for both of you!!!! Let us know how you progress, please! Best Wishes!!!
I also don't have children yet, but one of my sisters used those seasickness bracelets and they worked WONDERS! |
LOL!!
Ashley, My mom said to tell you, "Yeap the dirt will make you feel better, but you have to videotape it and send it to everybody in order for it to work." Now she is saying it is all ahe ate when she was pregnant for me!! Ok, really I don't know either. Never been there, but congratulations and best wishes!! |
How cute! I promise you, if I eat dirt, it will not be videotaped!! I have found one thing that seems to work pretty well, and I found it by accident. Vinegar and Salt potato chips ...
Also, I ordered 12 bags of preggie pops. I hope they work!! L&L, Ashley |
LOL!!! Hope you find something better tasting than dirt that makes you feel better soon!! Good luck and best wishes!!
TT love, Brandi |
