Geocities - WHY?????

I'm having trouble with my Geocities site.

http://www.geocities.com/tnxxilon

On every page, there's an error on Line 2 or something. If anyone knows about HTML, please check my source and tell me what I'm doing wrong!!

Basically, whenever you save a page on Geocities, it automatically inserts code for those annoying ads. Then if you ever go back and edit the page, it reinserts that code again. If you didn't remove the code they inserted the first time, it make you get that error message over and over, until you go in and remove all the code they inserted, which of course they immediately replace..... grrrr. Stupid Geocities.

WOW! Thanx!

ETA: Ok, so here's the crazy thing. There's no code that I can find! :( Oh will it never end???

Hmmm. Déja vu. : - )

All the pages the error occurs on are those which doesn't have the code (I gave in that thread) inserted into them.

Also, do remove the existing adverts code after the </html> tag at the bottom of each page (visible when you view source). It starts "<!-- text below generated by server. Please Remove...". Alternatively, you can just re-upload the html files from your disk drive using the Geocities Upload tool as your original files won't have the ads inserted, just make sure the blocking code is in them before uploading.

...Hope that helps.

LOL! I couldn't find that other thread. I guess I wasn't using the right search term. The blocking code to stop the problem wasn't working anymore so I was in here trying to find other options.

:p

It still works :p
You just need to add it to some of the new pages. :)

PLEASE do not use GeoCities.

A decent host: www.aloofhosting.com (free!)
Another one: www.1colony.com (not really a great host for any reason other than their prices are low and that domain is pretty sweet for any group that's still a colony)

preciousjeni 05-27-2004 06:20 PM

I'm barely able to use Geocities much less another server!! :( I know it's sad.

I have another question. Does anyone know how to make the stupid ad dropdown go behind the text on the page??

Must disagree! Other than the stupid ads (which I have a pop-up blocker), I think the site is good for the money-- $F-R-E-E!!

My site are fine www.geocities.com/alphadeltapialumnae and www.geocities.com/adpibetatau

I don't like geocities.

We can't get into our website anymore because the password was changed.
Apparently there is nothing they can do about it.

The funny thing is that I just checked out some member pages at Aloofhosting, and one of the text ads at the bottom, is for no other than Geocities... :D

The service my fraternity uses, and I would like to recommend, is DotEasy
Its $0 for webspace, all you pay is the domain fee which is $25 and its free setup. So for $25 a year, you get your own domain, no banner ads, plus 100 Mb of disk space and 1 gb/transfer. I just think it'd be easy to budget out $2.10 or so a month for webspace. Plus the no banners make your GLO automatically look better, and the domain is a nicer added deal.

Open your site in Internet Explorer.
Go to the menu and click "View".
Under the View menu, click "Source".

You can now view the basic code for your webpage. Copy and paste it into a Notepad file and save to your computer. Edit it however you like and put it onto a new webpage.
