Downriver Detroit is underwater
We had some pretty bad storms here last night and some of the neighborhoods around here are buried in like 5ft of water.
Anyone else around the midwest dealing with flooded basements and such? |
Hope things are OK at your home.
Although it has nothing to do with the current situation, the last time we had a flooded basement was after an ice storm when we lived in metro-Detroit. That was well over 20 years ago. |
I'm fine (I live at on one of the higher points downtown) but Milwaukee has dumped tons of raw sewage into the lake again...yummy!
|
Interesting. I moved from Milwaukee to Detroit.
Glad I've been in Denver for over twenty years now. Of course we have very little water to either flood or dump things in at the moment. |
Ohhh man we got dumped on again today! Green sky and all. We have no power currently and I duno why since it went out like 2 hours after the storm ended. We're also the only subdivision around here that has no power. We have our generator going because we can't survive without electricity, plus we want our sub-pump to keep running so we dont have to pump out our basement. Right now we're sitting here awaiting the next storm to roll in.
Expressways are flooded like crazy. Roadways are flooded. I've never seen it like this before! |
I live downriver and have a creek that runs behind my fence. (I guess my property line actually includes part of the creek). Usually, the creek is about 3 feet behind my fence. Tonight, the creek is about 30 feet inside my fence. This is the highest I've seen it get. I still have about 40 feet before it gets to the house, and the land is elevated more as you get nearer the house, but I'm worrying.
A flash flood warning (on top of the regular ole flood warning for my county) has been posted and the two counties surrounding me have severe t-storm warnings again too. And those Milwaukee storms are heading straight for us for the middle of the night and they're predicting more rain tomorrow and Sunday. Yes, I'm getting pretty nervous. Dee (my dog keeps going out there, trying to run her usual course along the fence, gets to the water and just stares at it, like "where did my yard go?") ETA: You were writing your last post while I was writing mine! I was on the top floor of our office building downtown during that green sky storm this afternoon. It was definitely eerie. Security announced to move away from the windows.. but almost our whole building is windows! No escape! |
My dad had to go out and get more gas for our generator and while he was out it started coming down pretty bad. Then it started hailing like crazy! I thought our sky-lights were gona bust.
We have rain coming for the next week everyday. I'm hoping the roads aren't too bad except Monday cuz I have class at nite and I wouldn't mind that being cancelled. And just to throwin a joke... if you were in my subdivision right now... it sounds like a vibrator convention. |
It's so wierd cause you guys are getting all the storms that Oklahoma and Arkansas usually get this time of year. The severe storms, tornado threats, hail, etc.
Green sky=not good. I can't remember if it means tornado or hail. One is yellow, one is green. Good luck to all of you guys. It's been "eerily quiet" weatherwise here in Arkansas this month. PsychTau |
The creek is a little higher today... more rain coming today too. Eeek. Basement is still dry, sump pump is running almost continuously. I hope it stays going!
|
Lol at least you have power! My dad had to go out in the hail storm last nite to get more gas for our generator. I'm at work now (at 7th and Northline) and I was praying we didn't have power here... bah too bad we do.

The water is pooling around the electric box that the underground wires connect into, so I'm hoping I still have electricity after the next rain storm. Surely those things are water proof, right? RIGHT?? (hehe)

budump bump. Naw I'm just kidding. That was funny. |
Yeah,
The floor I work at (basement) is somewhat flooded. Not too bad..just water near the doorway. |
