Courses I've Taken
 

I started thinking about this in another forum. Admit it - we've all taken classes that we will probably never use, or will just make for interesting discussion. I've taken several foreign languages, "AmerEnglish", Oceanography (?!), and more. What are some of the courses that you've taken, as electives, or to make you a "more rounded scholar"?

wow I have alot of those, hitler and constitiutional breakdown, french, choir, modern dance 2, aikido, astronomy, pretty much my entire major (theater) and problems of philosophy.

my whole major....american studies.....especially because everyone assumes its history of america, when really its this interdisciplinary thing of like, media and sociology. most of my wasted classes were the classes i took when i went to drexel for film, especially how they had us take ALL of our classes relating to film. i even took physics and math for art!!! what a joke!!!

and heres the icing in the cake......im the queen of finding fun, easy a classes, so next semester was a thinking of taking bee keeping. wouldnt it be fun to be able to put up an away message that said "beekeeping...be back later!" the only thing that is holding me back is that it starts at 9:30am....

Latin, even though it helped me on the SAT and GRE.

camping & backpacking, geography (?!), meterology/climatology (??!!), and while it has absolutely nothing to do with business or my degree, I was a DJ for the campus radio station at the first university I attended. A lot of people asked me "why" since it wasn't in my field of study, but I had sooooooooooo much fun with it!!!

My major was astronomy and physics, so I took all those classes, but my elective classes were things like: metalsmith/jewelry making (they let me play with a torch), History of Women in America, Introduction to Computer Information Systems (which is a breaze class for someone who spends too much time programing), 2 different Programming classes, Kickboxing (I needed one more credit to graduate and this was it), Geology of Planets as a web course, and two Folklore classes... I think that is most of what I took, at least the fun stuff...

When I was getting my bachelor's I didn't have much time for "electives" because I was (at that time) an el. ed. major with endorsements in mathematics and special education (so my "electives" were my classes for my major and my concentrations). The only electives I really had were Gospel choir, and my classes from the semester I studied overseas (Field Study in European geography, topics in English life and culture, survey of English history and culture, and cultural feast (basically a cooking class!)

While waiting to go to grad school (trying to figure out what I wanted to do) all my classes were electives, so I took oceanography, social psych, intro to psych, intro to sociology, human sexuality, marriage and the family, stats (now how often do you hear that being called an elective ?!?!?!?!?!), developmental psych, research methods in psych, psych of women, and abnormal psych.

Can you now tell I'm interested in psychology???? :D

I didn't take any classes that were not required for my degree. Although, I wish I would've taken just for the fun of it. I did have a stupid class though. It was Math for elementary education. We learned about differnt types of number systems ( I don't even remember what they were now. Greek, I was one I think.) It was a totally pointless class. Our test would have questions about the number of muscles it takes to smile and Christopher Columbus. It was ridicoulous!! The only electives I had was one Health and Human Performanc. I took racquetball, and I sucked. Luckily, my partner was the best in the class and we won the class tournment. LOL!! I also had two English electives; grammar (diagraming sentences) and Short Stories and Novels. I enjoyed the short stories and novel class, because I love to read. But I wish I would have taken soemthing fun like photograhpy or something!!

I ended up with a ridiculous amount of courses that didn't relate directly to my major or minor (French/Italian)....
Statistics (blah), American Government (double blah), composition 1 & 2, Psychology, Astronomy, Debates in Diversity (which was one of the best classes I've ever taken), choir, accounting (which I actually took for fun, oddly enough), German, Latin, and music theory. There are probably more, but I can't think right now...

Did we go to the same school? :D Did you do Behavioral Modification as a psych class?

I don't think Behavioral Modification is offered here! Not knowing what I wanted to do, I took ocenaography and social psych my first semester after graduation from Valpo, and I absolutely LOVED social psych (wasn't so hot about oceanography, though!) I decided that I wanted to get into something with psychology then, and then I realized that I love working with kids, so I felt school psych would be the best bet for me....now, just to get my grad school application done! :p

Behavior Mod was actually a course that I DO use!! We had to train rats to do different things, and "used" rats to unlearn bad behaviors and learn better ones.

I'm laughing to myself - the first day of class, when I realized that we had to feed & take care of the rat everyday, I looked around the class, and starting flirting outrageously with the homliest guy in the class! Needless to say, he became my lab partner, and I never once had to feed or clean up after him - except when I rewarded the rat for good behavior.

I don't know why nauadpi didn't have fun in Women in American History we didn't pay any attention in it anyways. That is how we did our mandatory diamond sister bonding during my alphaship. nauadpi i will always remember Dean Cane. The class i though was the dumbest classes were Educational psychology (didn't learn anything but it is everything i need to pass the professional part of the Arizona Teaching Test), the other dumb class is Applied teaching methods required by the history department (did not learn a thing and was the largest waste of TTH 3:55-5:10 wonderful naptime before Panhellenic. I am sure i will take some more dumb classes this year while finishing up my History/ Social Studies Secondary ed degree. oh yea I officially have a graduation date after 4 years I will graduate May 13, 2005 :)

Congrats, mark it on every calendar you can get your hands on!!! That's what I did when I offically got my graduation date. Every person's calendar, I knew had, "Brandi's Graduation," written on it. LOL
