Has anyone else heard that Jesse Jackson is the father of a 20 month old daughter? He decided to go public with the information after the National Enquirer uncovered the information.

Yes, I heard this while on the bus coming to work today. My mouth was wide open http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif He really thought he could keep that under wraps?

OOHLALA 01-18-2001 10:21 AM

Good Morning everyone.....

I heard the news and I am not shocked at all!!! I don't even think this is the first time he stepped out on his wife.
The Russ Parr show had it as the topic of discussion this morning. And I wanted to call and tell it like it is... Most people were saying that he is intitled, its his personal life, and, well he is a man, to the connotation that that is what men do! Some were saying that it does not affect is political stand, it is more of a personal mater.
I personnally think that he just needs to give up the "Rev" attached to his name and just be regular "Joe Blow" (no pun intended)! I am sick and tired of people making excuses just because they are a man. What if a woman did the same thing that was in the public eye and held high. She would be every type whore, unfit for this unfit for that, etc... But what really angered me is that all the time that I was thinking that if this were someone else like Micheal Jordan or Jackson for that matter, all hell would break loose. Let say it was a white person (remember Tammy Faye Baker and her husband) we would be jumping on every band wagon to get them out of the political eye. I was never the one to trust in any man the way some people have put him on a pedestal because no man that walks this earth is any holier than any other, in the eyes of God!

Just my piece, what is everyone else thinking about this...

kitten03 01-18-2001 10:30 AM

When I read it, I was expecting the child to be 20 years old. Some how that would have been more comforting than a little baby. I'm kinda flabbergasted because he has been running around on his crusade for the black vote and all of a sudden this happens. It would have been more responsible to acknowledge the child publicly before it would have been front page news on a tabloid. I still roflmao at Professor "Who let the dogs out". I guess this dog let a little too much out.

Miss. Mocha 01-18-2001 11:01 AM

Goodness Gracious, now is the time that I wish I knew how to use the stupid "quote" mechanism.

I am over here dying, or should I say that I'm ROTFLMAO at the Professor.

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT, INDEED!!!!!!!

I heard all the mess too and I was saying damn, damn, damn in the car this morning... kitten03 I know it is wrong but I was hoping the child was 20 YEARS OLD too!!

I agree with OOHLALA, no person should be put on a pedestal because WE ALL FALL SHORT!!
I might be wrong but I would tend to criticize Rev. Jackson more than I did Clinton because Clinton never claimed to be highly moral/ethical ...well I guess in a sense that comes with his position but he never claimed to be a Reverend and then go out and mess with Monica, but Rev. Jackson done professed his love of God, and has millions of followers and then goes and does some crap like this ...pisses me the hell off. Now don't get me wrong neither man is better then the other but $hit, Jesse should have sure known better.

That reminds me of when the Stupid Mayor of New York got caught... I am glad Donna left him. Men are just f'ing up now-a-days and so many people talked BAD about Clinton and now since he was the first, people are making it seem like a mute point for all the rest and it is NOT!!!!
And I agree if it were a women in these situations the whole world would be cursing her, giving her LARGE A to wear on her chest.

Sensational08 01-18-2001 11:05 AM

Good morning, everyone. This is soooooo disturbing. All I could say when I heard it on the news this morning was "Say it ain't so, Jesse". Aside from the moral issues here - the infidelity, there is the fact that, unlike some sports figures who say that they are not role models, Jesse Jackson is a role model. As a role model, I think he should have considered how his actions could affect black boys and young black men. What kind of message does this send to them? That it is okay to be unfaithful to your wife ? Moreover, I can't understand how a man as intelligent as Mr. Jackson could have unprotected sex. Where were the condoms, Jesse ? That is another erroneous message that he has sent to people. I'll say it loud so everyone can hear it....IT IS NOT SAFE TO HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX!!!! Sorry for the long post, but I had to let this out. Have a great day, everyone!

AKAtude 01-18-2001 11:30 AM

I'm ROTFLMAO at Professor.

Nothing surprises me anymore, but I am very disappointed. I, too, was thinking this had to be an adult, not an infant! When I heard 20 months old, my mouth hit the floor!

ManndingoNUPE 01-18-2001 11:52 AM

"Who let the dogs Out," Now that was funny.

My question is this. Jesse deserves the knocks that he is getting and going to get (a few good kicks in the azz should come from his wife, but that's on her), but my thing is this, we always blame just the man/woman. What about the other party? I am not trying to take up for Jesse, because he f&*ed up and there is no way around it. But why don't we ever look at the other party. Isn't she also to blame too? I am far from a rocket scientist, but I am pretty sure that she knew he was married. That's just a hunch on my part. I could be wrong.

Whether we want to acknowledge blame or not, She deserves half of the blame. There are women/men out there who will basically throw it in your face if you have some type of status or power.

Like I said, this is in no way an attempt to protect Jesse, every man/woman has a choice when they enter into marriage. But the countless number of people out there who would love nothing more than to bed someone who has Jesse's status. I have heard things about Jesse for years, so this doesn't suprise me.

Let's just pray for Jesse's family, and the most innocent party of this whole sordid affair, that little 20-month-old child, who did not ask to be part of this crap. I truly feel sorry for her. I have very little sympathy for the mother or for Jesse.

MN

AKAtude 01-18-2001 12:13 PM

MN, I haven't heard anything about her except that she worked in the Washington office of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition. On CNN's website, Jackson is quoted as saying he wants his daughter and her mother to have the privacy they deserve.

I do understand what you are saying, and yes she is equally to blame. I don't know if she is married, but everyone knows Jesse is married with five adult children. I suppose the spotlight is on Jesse because he is a well-known figure.

Catwoman 01-18-2001 12:20 PM

I just heard about this 20 min. ago...a co-worker told me. I went on the net (msnbc) and got the scoop. First of all I have never really been a big fan of Jesse Jackson's - he seemed rather arrogant to me -and although he has done a lot of good things for African-Americans and people in general - I never really liked him. Secondly no matter what title you put before his name, Rev, Pope, Deacon, President, etc he is still just a man and we all fall short of the Glory of God. Man would expect one who claims to be "called" by God to be able to restrain himself from sin. But when it comes down to it he is still a man...and sin is sin...regardless of the magnitude or consequences. So if he stole a candybar from the store, killed a man, cheated on his wife, lied....it is all sin and the results of the sin may effect him or others in different ways...but it is all sin. I am not condoning what he did nor am I comparing cheating on your wife to stealing a candybar. I am just saying I can't judge the man for what he did.
MandingoNUPE...yes the woman should be facing the music too! She obviously knew who Jesse was and she had to have known the brother was married!!! But if the press finds out who she is she and the little girl will never have a moments peace. The press will run her down every chance they get.
Sensational08...he may have used a condom - nothing is 100%.
The ironic thing about the situation is that in 1998 - Jesse was the one at the White House praying with the Clinton's and counseling the President about the Monica L. scandal and probably all around the same time he had his own "little Monica".

I too was shocked and very disappointed once I heard the news about Jesse Jacksons 20 month old daughter. When I 1st heard it on the Today Show I thought they were talking about his son or even someone else with the same name, but not the Reverend. I am still in shock. I too was hoping that this affair had taken place several years ago. Do you all realize that during the time his daughter was born he was counseling President Clinton about the Monica Lewinsky situation. Do you think he confessed to the Presidnet about his affair during these counseling sessions?? HMMMMM?? This is indeed a sad day for Black America, one of our most prominenet leaders has disappointed the nation. I just can't believe it. Do you all think he has lost his leadership role and respect within the black community, the church community, and in the political arena??
