recognition pin?

What's a recognition pin? I saw two on my sorority's official jewelry site and have no clue what they are.

Usually they're a smaller version of your badge, or a symbol. They're worn on clothing you couldn't normally wear your official badge on (i.e. jeans and a sweater, or on the outside of a coat).

We have a Phoenix Recognition Pin and a Mother Patroness Pin. Mother Patroness is given to (duh) mothers or other women who have served as longtime chapter advisors and such, not necessarily sisters. The Phoenix Recognition is often given to chapter founders and non-members such as sweethearts or male advisors.

How totally middle-school is it of me that I'm snickering over the fact 33girl's post count is at 6699 right now?

Recognition pin is something that represents your Greek Organization whether it be a smaller Badge or some other form of recognition.:)

LXA is the Cross and Cresent With our Letters. We do not use our Badges as just a recognition as it is so large a part of our Ritual.

Many times, Greek Organizations will not have anything like this.

I found out that while not on our Official Web Site, there were some available, The Cross and Cresent. I just bought all of them as there are not made anymore.

I plan on giving them out to All of The Alums who come to The 40 Anniversary of 40 years.

Here's my fraternity's description of its recognition pin:

The Recognition Pin and Monogram Pin - The Recognition Pin is a small replica of the open book with its hieroglyphics and pen. The Recognition Pin permits members unknown to each other to recognize the common bond of our Fraternity when the Badge is not worn or obscured by the suit jacket. The Monogram Pin is a simple gold pin with the Greek Letters. Both of these pins are worn on the left lapel of a suit or a sport coat only by initiated members of the Fraternity.

For AOII, the badge was the ONLY piece of jewelry and the ONLY way that the letters were allowed to be worn for a LONG time. (Imagine..no letter shirts, no lavaliers, no <GASP> party t-shirts!) Our founders decided that a beautiful rose, unmistakable from any other, would be a way to recognize each other when not wearing the badge....

Alpha Delta Pi has a number of recognition pins; the staggered letters, a minature crest, and a special one for alumnae: a black diamond with 2 black (real) diamonds.

I've actually met several sisters over the years through wearing or seeing a recognition pin! They are especially nice on a (nice) winter coat or jacket.

Pixell, I asked this question a while back in the DZ forum...I'm not sure what thread it was in or what the answer was, but maybe if you sift through there I can find it. You're talking about those cute little lamps, right? I like them.

It varies from organization to organization...

Tau Beta Sigma's recognition pin is a miniature version of our crest. And it's more common for sisters to wear the recognition pin than our official pearled badge. We're authorized to wear either in any formal chapter function. There are two versions of it...

(I have the above one, with my chapter guard).

And a larger, colorized one (which I've never seen in person):

There are also a couple of lapel pins with the letters of the organization.

I don't even own a pearl badge. I want to, though... :)
