Too quiet!
It's been rather quiet in this forum lately. I thought I'd re-vamp it a bit by starting this "What have you been doing lately?" thread.
So I'll be first. :) Lately I have been doing my usual volunteering at the Humane Society and the hospital. I've also been doing some job interviews for the Recovery/Pre-Op areas of the surgery dept. there as well. I'm quite excited. In addition to that I've been setting up babysitting and house sitting jobs. Recently I've also been observing surgeries with a doctor friend of mine who is a urologic surgeon. I met and exceeded my goal of raising $100 for the Walk for Diabetes this summer. I ended up raising $150. I'm also setting up volunteering time with Humane Society fundraising events as well as the local God's Pantry and Catholic Action Center (feeds the homeless) through my church. I've also been working with my advisee on scholarship programming for the Fall semester as well as looking forward to my first rec. writing party with the Lexington alum. group here. I've also taken on a second advisory role as advising the music chair. I've also offered to advise the historian/editor and panhellenic rep. offices come December if no one else has stepped up to advise them. I also plan to come and observe a lil bit of the rush retreat for my chapter. I'm also planning a trip to go cave exploring, hiking, and canoeing as well as starting to redo this house in July if my sister moves out like she claims. I've recently been talked into participating in a golf scramble as well...........I dont know if I'll play, but I'd like to be the designated golf cart driver. :) I also have some baseball and arena football games lined up to attend as well with the local professional teams in Lexington. I also hope to take a trip to Disney World with a friend if I've made enough money this summer after my microbiology class is finished the first week of August (not looking like this is going to be happening though). What have the rest of you all been doing? I'm still interested in knowing what some of the rest of you are doing. To those that have replied, THANKS! To those that havent but I know are reading these, step up and share :) Edited to keep up with my summer happenings as they happen or get planned. :) |
Nice idea!!
Mary-
WOW! When do you have the time?? I admire that list of service activities! I have been involved in animal welfare & rescue for many years now. I am currently a foster mom for Texas Border Collie Rescue. I am afraid our current foster girl, Dixie, has heartworms and is going to be here for a while through her treatment. It wouldn't be so bad, but she and my own BC hate one another! I also volunteer to do "Rescue Railroads" through this part of Texas and termporary fostering for other dog breeds & mixes. I also have my own small business. This is my busier season, so I am working some long hours. I have recently purchased 60 Years in Kappa Alpha Theta and I am reading that. It is fascinating!!! The first 15 years of Theta were such a difficult time for our Founders. It has increased my admiration for them! |
New to Iowa City
Hi there! Where have all the Thetas gone? This forum has been pretty quiet lately... But knowing Thetas, I'm sure everyone is busy with great summer plans :)
I'm staying with my sister in Iowa City for the summer and don't know the area at all :( I've been looking for greek stores in town but have had little luck. I was wondering if anyone knew if there are any in the Iowa City area. Anywhere in Iowa in fact! I'm trying to find some original Theta gear for my lil sis to pass on to her future lil! And also what about good embroidery and screen printing places? I'm trying to come up with rush girl shirts for the SAE colony at LSU. It'd be great to have them done before I head back to Louisiana. Thanks a bunch! |
Culprit2184,
I don't know about Iowa City's Greek stores, there have to be some somewhere around there. You might ask ISUKappa if she knows. She's an adviser there. There are some in Iowa though. Des Moines has one over by Drake University. Ames also has one that does screenprinting and they sometimes have other little odds and ends. It's called TGalaxy. I can get you directions to that if you want. -Bekah |
thanks for the info! my sister goes into des moines for work occassionally, so i will definitely check the university area. do you know any of the store names?

Sometimes you dont have to have a "greek" store to buy Greek things. There are two or three regular gift stores here in Lexington that sell sorority stuff for the chapters in this area. One will even custom make certain items (no clothing though). You may be able to find sorority stuff by just calling around local gift shops.
