Boys and Girls Club

This summer I am working with a Boys and Girls Club. This is the first year of the program here at this particular location.

What are some summertime activities you guys remember from back in the day? Or any that you could suggest for us to do with the kids?

We will have them for four hours each day. If you have any ideas of a schedule I'd appreciate those suggestions too.

Have any of you participated as a child in the Boys and Girls Club? If so what kind of impact did it have on you?

Yes, I was a member of the Salesian BOYS Club (it was all-male at the time I was there). I loved it. I felt like I was part of an exclusive members only club. I spent most of my time there in the learning center playing computer games like "Jeopardy!", and "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego", and this was BEFORE it became a hit tv game show. I was pretty good at it too. My other favorite hangouts were the bowling lanes and the swimming pools.

Oh, and my biggest teenage memories were when the Boys Club had the nighttime teen drug-free dances every 3 months (co-ed, of course), billed as the "Jammin' '88 Party, with an annual numeric update, much like Match Game did. Oh, and the girls were jockin' me at the TLC Overnight (April 21-22, 1989), a co-ed slumber party that I thought was off the chain!!

Ah, the memories.

BTW, I still have my original membership card(s)
