Do you follow fashion trends?

I do sometimes, but I feel that they are a waste of money. I mean, one year, they are hot, but the next year, they are not. For instance, if you buy a jacket that is $80 and it is trendy for a year, guess what? That jacket will be sitting in the closet the next year collecting dust. The reason why I follow trends is because an item is cool.

Nope

I'm nearly 40 and don't have the money to constantly change a wardrobe every six months or so. Thus, I base my look on classics (black cashmere, pearls, etc.) and may add a trend in small doses. Except for pink and green -- not a trend for me.
:D

I sometimes follow the trends...as in the styles but not the designers. I refuse to pay a fortune for clothes that I feel I won't wear after a year.

I hate spending money on clothes...actually I hate shopping.

Spending $80 on a jacket isn't expensive if you wear it a dozen times or so. If you have worn it only once, it was expensive and probably not worth it.

I think like Steeltrap. I try to buy classics that last for years. They tend to be more expensive, but it is worth it. Also we are building a professional wardrobe which is different from a college wardrobe. I hate spending too much money on clothes. I figure out what I like and what I need. If I see something on sale that I need, I buy it. If I see something that is expensive, I wait until it is on sale. I try to shop around for sales. I am lucky to be in NY because there is always a sale.

I do follow trends sometimes, especially with shoes, but for the most part I am a conservative spender. At work, I stick to the classic cuts that I don't need to constantly replace and I have a few high-fashion items in my closet for regular and club wear. If I find something designer that I have to have, I will only buy it if it's on sale. I just don't feel right purchasing all designer clothes cuz I know financially I can't handle that, although I wish I could.

sometimes, though i dont like to show a lot of skin and i'm all about comfort. My opinion is if people dont like how i dress, then by god they can look somewhere else. Thats my story and i'm sticking to it.

I tend to follow trends with handbags and shoes rather than clothing because they're more easily replaceable - especially since I work at a shoe store! ;)

If I like the trend then I'm down. If not forget it.

swissmiss04 05-11-2004 05:20 PM

Not trendy. At all. I have some dresses that I've had since high school that still look great and don't look dated at all. I buy stuff that I won't be ashamed to see in pictures 20 years later. Same goes for my hair and makeup. I just don't see the point in wearing something *just* because someone else thinks it will look good for a few months. I'd rather spend $200 on an outfit at Ann Taylor that will look good when I'm 40 (hoping I'm the same size) than spend $200 at Cache and look ridiculous next year.

co-sign on the classics comments.

Yeah, sure, I have some trendy items, but usually I find them on sale, or not by a designer name. (no shame in buying non-designer item.. I'm a poor college student.) That way, when the trend is gone.. I didn't waste a TON of money on something. I like incorperating trendy items with my classic ones.. its more fun (for me) to be a little bit trendy, instead of trend-o-rama.

In high school, I wanted a super trendy prom dress. My mother told me no. She said I should go with a classic cut and design, so I wouldn't shake my head at my prom pictures 35 years down the road. I'm glad, that both my Junior and Senior Prom dressed were classic-y. I look at my pictures and still love them, and the way I look. A good friend of mine wore a very trendy dress and she hates her pictures now. Goes to show, for me atleast, THE CLASSICS ARE THE WAY TO GO.
