Holy cow, I have a stalker!
OMG, so last night I'm laying on my bed naked b/c my roomie is an air conditioning nazi and won't let us turn on the air and I was hot as crap so I wanted to cool down. It was like 1am and I was talking to my boyfriend on the phone when I hear this noise outside my window (which my bed is right up against). My blinds are down and closed so I just lifted one of the slats up a little bit to look out and there is this guy standing against my window and he waves at me. I freaked out. There are pine needles and bushes outside my window, it's not a place to hang out. So I was thinking "hmmm, that's weird." My roomie gets home later and I tell her and she's like you should have called the cops. I could swear he was peeking in through the slats. But then I thought that was being kind of cocky and maybe he wasn't so I just went to bed. Well I told the apartment office about it today and they put fliers on all the doors telling them about the "peeping tom." So my neighbor across the hall comes over and tells me she saw him looking in my window last night and called the cops for me. She said his face was seriously pressed up against the glass. Well the cops never came to my place so I didn't know they were called. So I go back inside and am talking to my boyfriend online when I see a shadow passed by my window slowly and then go back again. My boyfriend and I had our webcams up and he said that I looked absolutely terrified. I started crying and then decided to go upstairs and knock on my neighbor's door b/c they are pretty big guys and my boyfriend is in Texas so it's not like he could come over. On my way upstairs, the stalker guy comes walking by the hallway and sees me on the stairs and stops and waves to me. I flipped. I went running up the stairs and banged on my neighbor's door. When they answered the door I was shaking and crying so hard that I passed out. When I finally came to and explained what happened, one of them went running outside to see if he could find him but he couldn't. They told me that last week they had called the cops on a guy of the same description who was sitting in his car right outside my bedroom window. Except for last night, I normally keep my blinds up just a tiny bit so my cats can see outside. They said this guy was totally reclined in his car seat so he was probably looking under the blinds. Anyway, my awesome neighbors wouldn't even let me go outside to get the cop, they went and got him and brought him back up to their place where he took a report and said he'd look around and check both the report from my neighbor last week and the one from my other neighbor last night and that they'd patrol the area at different times for the next month. I don't know this guy. I've gotten a good look at him and I am absolutely sure I don't know him.
I am scared to death. I'm afraid to leave my apartment. I'm afraid he's going to break in. I hate that I have to keep my blinds completely down all the time because the cats loved looking outside. I keep thinking I see things out of the corner of my eye and I keep thinking I hear things. |
I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. What you're going through is so scary, I've been there but it was with an ex and it was easily put to a stop.
Just keep in close contact with your neighbors, roommate, your friends and the cops. And please, please, please be careful wherever you go. Get some mace and don't go anywhere alone if you can. I'd hate to hear that something might happen to you. |
Yeah the worst part right now is that my roomie is out of town until Monday.
|
Keep a cordless or cell phone with you too. Call 911 every time you see him. It will be hard for him to see inside your room if you keep your lights off in your room. Change up your routine.. maybe sleep in roommates room while she's out of town. Or on a couch. Is there someone who can stay with you this weekend?
Mace or pepper spray is a good idea too. If the neighbors can get a license plate on the car, that would be great. It could lead to finding out who he is and getting a restraining order or pressing charges. Good luck gal.. not an easy situation to deal with. Dee |
Is there anyone you can stay with or have stay with you? The police should be on lookout at your complex. This is awful! You are made the prisoner because of some crazy.
When I was reading about the serial killer in Baton Rouge, lots of profile material came out. This is the type of behavior that can escalate. DO NOT TAKE ANY RISKS-DO NOT GO ANYWHERE (even into the hallway) ALONE! Stay safe! |
Wow! That is terrifying. I agree that you should stay with friends or have friends stay with you when your roomie is away.
I am not sure how your apartment complex works, but I think that they should change the locks on the front door of your building. I wonder how this creep got into your building. They should notify the entire complex of this situation with a description of the guy. They can post fliers and distribute them to individual apartments. If someone sees him, they should call 911. Your neighbors should not let someone they do not know into the building. You should also get a second lock on your door if you don't have one. and use it. I don't know the type of security you have at your complex, but video cameras could help document this guy's behavior. I'm really sorry that this is happening to you. I hope that the police catch this man soon. |

The worst part is just worrying what he's going to do next and I'm a very social person so to be cooped up in my apartment afraid to even walk around is torture. |
I second having someone stay with you or have someone come and pick you up and take you away from your apartment for the weekend. Do your parents live in the same state? Maybe stay with them for the weekend? Try staying with another sister or something.
I also suggest, for the future of course, take a self defense class. They are really helpful and sometimes that skill is a lot easier and quicker to use than trying to find pepperspray. And if you find yourself outside alone, carry your keys so that the ends stick in between your fingers. They can be a pretty good weapon as well. I hope they find the guy. And maybe for a weekend, your cats won't mind that they can't look outside. I'd keep the blinds shut. |
can you go stay at your sorority house for a few days? or have one of your sisters come stay with you?
This really blows having to alter your life b/c of some pervert peeping tom! I'm sorry this is all happening! |
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. :(
I second everyone's advice about not being alone. Don't get mace, though. If he does try to attack you, he could easily get it away from you and use it against you. Take care and stay safe. :) |
Well another twist in the saga.... he cut the wires to my air conditioner. *shakes head* Freaking psycho.
The apartment office people came over and put motion alarms on all the doors and windows which was awesome. |
I hope you're keeping a log book with dates, times and what happens; for the police etc.

window and the part of the street he would be most likely to park. You can monitor and videotape at the same time. Getting him on film will definitely aid in catching (ie, get a license number-calling when you see him outside and the police can nab him in the act) AND prosecution WHEN he is caught. |
I will assume you have a cell phone.
GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE! If you were my daughter, number ONE, I KNOW she would tell me what's happening. Number TWO-I would give her anything and every cent I had to make her safe. Have you talked about this to your folks? Cutting wires does not sound good. Who knows WHAT wires he was trying to cut! I AM trying to scare you into doing something to protect yourself. |
Ok well . . make sure you check onto GC twice a day just so we know you are still ok :)
Good luck. |
