New Book on Sorority Life

I read her first novel and it had nothing to do with sorority life. Does anyone know if she's Greek? I wonder if she's just putting a sorority in the story because she knows it'll attract readers?

In contrast to its well-constructed predecessor, The Sisters of Theta Phi Kappa (2001), Canadian author Perrin's second sorority-themed romantic suspense novel fails to grip. In the summer of 1975, the unsolved murder of a wayward teenage girl prompts Sylvia Grayson, matriarch of one of New Orleans' most elite old-money African-American families and one-time president of the Delta Gamma Psi sorority, to be even more protective of her lonely only child, Olivia, who loves the dark and mystery of night. Estranged from her mother, Olivia later becomes a successful horror writer and has a daughter, Rachelle. The author sensitively explores the relationships between mothers and daughters, but the action doesn't pick up until Rachelle reaches college age and considers following the family tradition by pledging for the Deltas. Strange events with voodoo overtones could have deadly consequences for Rachelle, particularly if a well-kept family secret gets out. Perrin knows her sorority politics and offers some insights into the power of love and the meaning of family, but a lack of focus and too much filler will frustrate many readers

i actually just read the sisters of theta phi kappa two weeks ago. it definately didn't have much to do with greek life. i don't know if she is greek or not, but in the acknowledgements she wrote,
"While the Theta Phi Kappa sorority is a fictional black sorority, it is inspired by the four black sororities that exist- the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, the Zeta Phi Beta sorority, and the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority. In this story, I have tried to convey the same principles of educating, giving back, and dedication to one's communities that the above-mentioned sororities pride themselves on. Thank you, sorority sisters everywhere, for your desire to make the world a better place."

she then goes on about some other things and ends with, "Finally, to every sorority out there- thank you for giving women the opportunity to make lasting friendships. May the spirit of sisterhood live on!"

i thought was really very nice. of course, most people don't read the acknowledgements. lol. i will probably check out her new book because i did enjoy the first.

Hi hon, I see from your post count you're quite new - welcome to GreekChat. It has been discussed on here... in one or two threads (understatement) ;).

Hence people sorta saying "you cannot be serious" :p

Look, I was not trying to be funny. I really did just hear about this book! I saw the lady who wrote the book on TV last week, she said she is getting hate mail, so I just wanted to know what the fuss was about.

All the sarcastic and snide comments really are not necessary. The last time I checked, it was not a crime to ask a question if your not clear on a subject.

My being new to Greekchat.com is irrelevant.

i think the reason why people reacted that way is because the book has been talked to it's death on this forum, all over the place. with new threads popping up on it all the time, it gets repetitive and can cause clutter, especially with a lot of the negative feelings toward the book. please let one of us know if you need help searching for the other threads.

I couldn't care less how new you are to GreekChat, I simply posted that comment to be NICE - in the course of linking you to threads which might be interesting to you as they were on the same subject! In addition to the point of posting to reassure you that nobody meant to be unkind but were perhaps just tired by another new thread on something which had been discussed lots already - unbeknown to you since you were new. Did I have to do any of that? NO.

Having read your reply to my efforts I can see to put it bluntly you're obviously a nasty bitch and I shouldn't have wasted my time. How dare you call me snide and sarcastic! Unfortunately I had thought as a general rule in life you WELCOME new people when you have been around a place longer as a courtesy. So excuse the heck outta me for not knowing that that was "irrelevant" :rolleyes: :mad:
