College Book

Hello SF and the wonderful ladies of AKA,

I have a problem that many of us are facing (yet again); THE PRICE OF TEXT BOOKS! My total for the fall is $650.00 in books for five classes. (this is crazy!)

Does anyone know of a website where discount books can be found?

I have found one website (collegebooks.com) but they only have three of the books that I need at a lower price than what the school book store is offering.

If anyone know please post the site.

Thanks

Try other college bookstores as well as amazon.com / barnesandnoble.com...

You all don't put up a book list in your dorms or the buildings of your classes?

That's what we used to do when I was in school. You list the books and the prices you are willing to sell your books for and place those lists in your dorms, all over campus.

Shoot, the only way I bought a BRAND NEW book was that I HAD TO. Otherwise, we learned to strategically plan. You take the class one semester, I'll take it after you.

Alot of people would rent their books to others.

Girl, I never used ALL my book money I was given on BOOKS. That extra money would keep me going "socially", if you will. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif And I had EVERY book I ever needed.

BTW, this was before the internet.

Ditto. The only brand new books I have ever bought were lab books that they don't sell used. You can usually find decent looking used books in the bookstore. And at my school the "Books for Sale" signs go up the first day of registration--look for those.
"Strategic planning" is a definite plus. Last year, my roommate and I shared two books both semesters. If you have good friends in your major, it's all love. And if a book runs out in the bookstore, some teachers put the book on reserve in the library.....I could go on and on about how to get around buying (or paying full price) for books---some things you can only learn at an HBCU http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif !!!

If you go to www.BigWords.com and type in the book you are looking for, they will give you a list of sites with the prices. Also try www.half.com, they always have something there, and you can choose what type of condition you want.

BTW, do you know anyone with "connects" to a copier. You can buy the book from a local retailer, copy that bad boy and return it the next day. That's just major ghetto, but I've done it before.

Try: universitybookswap.com or varsitybooks.com (I know people who have used these sites, but I have never used them myself)

Also: textbooks.com; ecampus.com or textswap.com

Also try: Networking!! Girl, work that charm that I know you have!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif Ask your friends do they kow anyone that took this class and that class and if they still have their books. At my school we have a forum on the internet where we can post books for sale...If your school has one then check it out...Also be on the look-out for signs from other students saying they are selling their books...

Good luck...
