can transfer students enter a fraternity?
 

I will be transferring from a community college to either USC or UCLA.... Do fraternities accept transfer students?

Great, I'm glad to hear even if I don't go to USC as a freshman I will have the opportunity to be a fraternity brother. I am also international (from Portugal) - would this be in any way prejudicial?

Any info on USC fraternities or transfer experiences would be greatly appreciated :)

Shouldn't be a problem. Might even work in your favor. My alma mater has a fairly high population of Asian internationals. One of my favorite brothers ever was from Japan. You'll be fine.

Just to echo My Two Interfraternal Brothers, having new blood so to speak and someone who has a GPA and not being affiliated with any group should be beneficial to any Greek Organization.

One reason being, is that you may have a little more maturity under your belt.:)

Of course, a lot depends on the Greek Organization and the size of the group.

Many times, the biggest is not the best! Check out the Web Sites of each Organization to get a better picture. A smaller chapter on a specific campus may have a very large National across the country. Each area is stronger for each Organization.

Is there any website on the internet that explains Greek Life a bit better? A "Greek Life 101 for beginners" type thing?

Two places:

Check on each school's website to see if you can find their Greek Life page -- should be under "Student Life" or something.

www.nicindy.org is also an excellent site for more general information. The Greek Life experience varies greatly from place to place, so information is fairly unreliable unless it's directly from the source.

if anyone else has any info on transfer students rushing and being accepted or was a transfer themself, it would be great if you could post details or story :)

I'm an alumna of UCLA and transfers have no problem in our Greek system. I know that every house up and down both fraternity and sorority row has transfers. Good Luck and hope you make the right choice in schools :D !

If you go to USC let me know if you'd be interested in becoming a founding father of Sigma Pi... we left USC about 10 years ago, and plan to be back very soon... being a founding father is a great opportunity to leave your own legacy.... also our Upsilon Chapter at UCLA was the first fraternity on the LA campus...

Being a transfer or international will not hurt you at all at USC, I have friends in my own house and in others that are one or both. As for Sigma Pi, I haven't heard anything about them coming back any time soon, as they've only been gone about 3 years actually, but the Founding Father thing is great, I'm a founder of the Delt chapter here, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. I encourage you to check out as many houses as possible (though it's a little tough sometimes with 16 houses here), and find the spot you feel most comfortable, but of course I have to put in a little plug for myself, so come check us out sometime.

Yes they do. Go out for Rush. Rush Theta Chi. Join whereever you think the coolest fraternity is. But defeintly you can join as a transfer, some of our best brothers are transfer students. Well, that one guy anyway. I know we have at least one. But still, you get my point.
