Who has supported our troops?

Any organizations out there done anything to support our troops over seas? We have collected cookies, clean undershirts, lip balm, bug repellent, flea collars (they wear them believe it or not to ward off sand fleas) and written notes of appreciation and sent them to the platoon of a member's cousin. We are going to do it again soon. We also had a few members bake cookies and give them to the local firestation just to say thanks for being there and we hope we never need you!

Brag about your bad selves! What have you donr for them lately!

Although I'm an alumna, I have a very close connection to this...my husband is deployed. I live in Germany, so I contacted our EO and found other DG's that are either in the military, spouses, or connected in some other way. One of the best things we can do for each other is support, that's what our sisterhood is all about! I believe a chapter in Kentucky has been sending care packages.

Sorry, but what I understand, that CARE packages to Troops over In The Combat Zones are often delayed.:(

Hell, they cannot even get sure and true Armour for protection.

Not underplaying this at all! I beleive Our Peeps need as much encourgement as possible for being over there!:)

I heard on the radio not too long ago that what troops really wanted/needed were light-hearted comdies to watch whenever they do have time. A woman got a letter from her husband who was overseas and he was the one who suggested it. He said that there are lots of rough times when spirits are low, and what they needed were some movies because they don't really have any out there. The morning radio show put together a "drop off" point in the area where people in the area could leave movies (either new or movies they just wanted to donate) and they are giong to send them to the troops (if they haven't already sent them?).

My chapter emailed with our stationed sisters and several of the stationed TKEs regularly and sent out several enormous (think over $100) care packages last year.

Our chapter advisor was stationed in Afghanistan. I know the actives sent him at least one good sized care package.

Other than that, we've participated in campus-wide activities.

I know we put together care packages that included most of the basics people have already mentioned, plus magazines, playing cards, and other items that could bring a little sunshine into their lives. :)

Last year during formal recruitment we put together care packages for philanthropy night.

A couple of weeks ago it hit home. Our sister was deployed and recently left last Saturday. We are going to regularly begin sending her things and I like the ideas I'm getting from this thread.

For her and other women we are also sending girl stuff. :)

our alumnae association in Boston and BU chapter sent about 15 care packages to a soldier who is the son of one of our sisters-he sent her a list of things they wanted in his squadron.

he also sent a list of marines in his squadron that he thought may not receive any mail and we included letters-

The AOIIs at Mason got camo rush shirts...it was a fine gesture

KSUViolet06 02-16-2005 03:52 AM

My chapter of Kappa Phi and also Sigma collected much needed items for the troops.

I support the military by asking them to reform their ways. They should be under civilian controls and they should divest from their businesses. I also asked the government to fund the military 100% so that the many mafia like business they own could be sold off. I'm talking about the Indonesian military though.
