old house photos

awhile back one of our generous posters sent us all postcard photos of some GORGEOUS old fraternity houses, these mostly
from Amherst. The Psi U one, for example...to die for!
Some of the eastern schools built veritable mansions in days of
yore, before codes and unions and other things blocked the practice. These were almost all private schools with wealthy alumni. The state U's did not have that clout and wealth. Could
some of you display some more of these? They are somewhat a
wish-book, of halcyon days gone by...breath taking, and truly an
architect's dream...Occasionally, an old local which went national
had a mansion, of sorts, not built for greek usage, but re-done,
and is an example of fantastic, dream-world, living. How 'bout
some more? We can dream, can't we?

Thanks for posting the FIJI link.

You can also find some very old (pre-1900) books/magazine articles on fraternities and fraternity houses.

For our 150th Anniversary, our International Office published a coffee table book called, Sisters. I found a photo in that book of my chapter, of a Founders' Day in the 1930's. I asked for a copy & got one from our IO!!

I'm currently having it framed for the chapter. :)

I also love historical photos of the houses & the people in them!

Old college yearbooks are also a great source for pictures of those wonderful old houses.

I wish we had a book of all old ADPi houses. That would be soooo awesome. I have the coffee table book, but Id love to see all the houses ADPi used back then. As a Interior Designer I love architecure and take pics of houses whenever I am on vacation. People probably wonder why I take a pic of their house. I love old houses, esp mansions. It would be an awesome vacation if we just went and looked at old sororitiy houses and stuff. Id be in heaven, drooling.

LXA does have a book that is called; "The Paedagogus", it is our New Associate Manual that does show many Chapter Houses in it.:)

Some are awesome and some so not, but I think it shows a cross cut of what Our Brothers live in.

The International Site also has a Thread for Propertys that show what some of the Houses Look like with the help of LCAP, a realastate arm for working with Chapters.

I look at some of these and have Green envy running down my chin!:D

Some can really look great on the outside and like S**T on the upper floors!:(

Hehe i was over at the ADPi house hanging out and I saw that book in their living room and I immediatley became emmersed in it. My ADPi friends were like "nicolle you are a bigger dork then we thought you were". i love stuff like that, i even contemplated buying this book made about the history and culture of Chico....it has our sorority house in it because our house is over 100 years old and is a historical landmark! :D Sweetiepie, you just made my day! That is just the loveliest thing to say!!

And it doesn't make you a dork - it makes you a history buff!

Now, when I check out the Alpha Phi house at Chico, I'll think of you!

I found a postcard of my house about two years ago on ebay. The pic was from about 10 years after the house was built, back in the 30's.

I have it framed now.
