WASHINGTON, April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Council on American-Islamic
Relations (CAIR) today called for the termination of a Boston-area radio talk
show host who allegedly said, "Let's kill all Muslims."
CAIR made that demand after receiving a complaint from a concerned Muslim
who heard WTKK-FM (http://www.969fmtalk.com) host Jay Severin's Thursday afternoon
program. WTKK-FM General Manager Matt Mills told CAIR that in a discussion
about how Severin claims Muslims want to take over America, even if it takes
centuries, Severin said, "I've got an idea, let's kill all Muslims."
"I have spoken to Jay Severin and he knows we take this seriously and do
not condone offensive remarks toward any religious groups and he will be
apologizing on his show Monday afternoon," said Mills in an e-mail. "He did
not intend to offend anyone."
Yet, Mills also acknowledged to CAIR that if Severin had said the same
thing about African-Americans that he would no longer be on the air.
"We believe a mere reprimand and apology is insufficient and demand that
he be taken off the air as he would be if he had attacked any other religious
or ethnic group," said CAIR's Chairman of the Board Omar Ahmad.
Ahmad added that such hateful rhetoric has a direct impact on the American
Muslim community. He cited examples of anti-Muslim incidents that took place
recently in Texas, such as a shooting at a Denton mosque, an e-mailed threat
against the Islamic Center of El Paso (tge Deo arrest in this case), arson
attacks on Muslim businesses in San Antonio and racist graffiti scrawled on
the interior of a Lubbock mosque.
The alarming increase of hate crimes against the Muslim community required
CAIR today to issue a security advisory for American Muslims. The "Muslim
Community Safety Kit" booklet, designed to help local Islamic leaders protect
institutions and individuals, may be obtained by e-mailing pubs@cair-net.org
or calling 202-488-8787.
Last week, CAIR announced a new campaign designed to counter anti-Muslim
hate on radio talk shows. The campaign, called "Hate Hurts America," is based
on the premise that the increasing attacks on Islam by talk show hosts harm
the United States by creating a downward spiral of interfaith mistrust and
hostility.
CAIR, America's largest Islamic civil liberties group, is headquartered in
Washington, D.C., and has 26 regional offices and chapters nationwide and in
Canada.

NOTE: CAIR offers an e-mail list designed to be a window to the American
Muslim community. Subscribers to the list, called CAIR-NET, receive news
releases and other materials dealing with American Muslim positions on issues
of importance to our society.
he should get the ax if Raqiyah Mays got fired. like i said.....it's 2004, and america still hasn't changed.

My goodness. Replace "muslims" with "jews, blacks, asians, catholics, etc" and you'd have a full scale riot at hand. As well it should. Ugh. Anyone who says we've made social progress is kidding him/herself.

pretty much. some schmoe will probably come on here trying to apolgize for him talking about:

"it was just a joke, lighten up. if some minority said the same thing about us, i wouldn't care. maybe i'm just not that sensitive."

swissmiss04 04-28-2004 08:33 AM

Ha. Try saying "I'm carrying explosives in my suitcase" to Customs officials and then saying "Ah ha ha, just a joke, lighten up!" I heard a story about a lady that did that. She regretted it, I'm sure!
Moral of the story: There are things you just don't joke about. Everything else is fair game.

what's scary isn't that this guy made the joke, what's scary is that people listen to his show

Aww isn't that cute. I love when people can't let a problem stand on its own. It's funny and cute.

By the way how come you don't protest over the many Muslims and their talk over infidels, jihad, sons of monkey and dogs?

A) Nobody on GC has a life. Let's stop beating around the bush and get out of DeNial City.

B) She should not post on every thread on GC. Nobody said that.

But you do agree that if it was any other groups, the DJ would have been fired along time ago? No?

No.

1) This isn't about other groups, it's about this group. Don't forget that and if this claim has merit, let it not ride on the backs of any other group.

2) I didn't comment on this. I commented on something else. You're trying to draw me into an argument that would be more difficult but I really don't care too much.

3) I take an issue with religions that want to dominate and convert others - either through word and, even more, through the sword. That isn't a problem of one group.

1) Ok, then do you agree that the DJs comment on ISlam is unacceptable? Since he has called for genocide on all the believier.

3) Sure there are some nutcases which seems to be the loudest. However, I can say that my people vast majority of my people, the Indonesian, do not want to dominate the world. We have our own problem to take care of. In case you don't believe me, read about the two most influentials person in the Islamic world within Indonesia, Abdurahman Wahid and Amien Rais.

1) If he had asked for that, then I would. But if in the context of being dominated he asked to fight the group, then that's different. Either way I can play diplomatic games with my wording.

2) Admittedly, I don't know enough about Indonesia. My concerns and interests have never been with Muslims though but Arabs - which makes it an interest of culture, religion, and nationalism.

1)"I've got an idea, let's kill all Muslims." That pretty much advocating genocide.

2) So, it's more of the Arab culture, and not the religion. I can understand that. Though, I would put the blame more on the leadership of the region for not only advocating, but trying to spread it. More in particular, the House of Saud.
