What Makes a Man?

I did a search and I didn't find this; if this has already been discussed can somebody find it? Thanks.

What makes a man?

What is your definition of manhood?

How do the majority of most adult males compare with your defition?

Are you a man? (for the males)

I have my own thoughts which I'll give later, but I don't want to bias anyone's opinion to start the thread

There are tons of definitions (which I'm sure are forthcoming, here) but simply put, a man does what he says he will do. His actions will match, and often surpass, his words.

A man knows the source of his power (God)
A man provides love, stability/structure for his family;
He takes a stand for that which he believes, and if he has to stand alone, so be it;
He will stand with his friend; yet can tell his friend he's wrong when he thinks so;

Yes, I am a man.

Rudyard Kipling's "If" speaks alot about manhood. It was a staple for me when I pledged, and has been a favorite poem of mine for many years.

I agree 100% with this assessment. Just would like to add that a man should always seek the heart of God, if he does this then he can be assured that he(and his family) will reach the highest heights in life. Abandon selfish will. Know when to speak and know when to be silent. A man should also have vision. There is nothing sadder when a man does not have vision(something we are fighting everyday in my hometown with our young brothers)

Most males I know(personally) strives towards this definition, I'm constantly striving.

I'm not perfect, but to answer the question YES.. I do consider myself a MAN!!

What makes a man?
Sufficient maturity to accomplish tasks and goals, and manage responsibilites. A man is someone who can celebrate the accomplishments of himself and others equally, and can forgive the failures of himself and others equally, while learning from all.

What is your definition of manhood?
Manhood is a state of mind in which a male recognizes his responsibility to two God's greatest creation: woman and family.

How do the majority of most adult males compare with your defition?
I don't think so. Too many men I know view women as sexual objects as opposed to full persons.

Are you a man? (for the males)
Yes. I have much work to do, but I am confident that God has me on the right path.

I often look at the life of Malcolm X for examples of how to be a man.

good thread

I totally agree. Here is my two cents...

What is your def. of a man?

-A man is an individual made in the image of God. Endowed with the maturity and inate responsibility to take care of those around him. Uplifts those around him and leads my example in his daily walk. He is humble and always aware that there is work to be done for his family, race, and all mankind.

What is your def. of manhood?

-Manhood is an EXTENDED maturation process. In which the above qualities are carried out, embodied and passed on to future generations.

How do the majority of most adult males compare with your def.?

-For the majority of guys, the status of being a man has been downsized to the amount of women you can have sex with or the amount of money you possess. I truly believe that in our current state, in all races the "true" essence of what we are discussing has been out numbered by children and childlike behavior.

Are you a man?

-Yes I am. I strive daily to live what I have posted. But, as I also posted it is a maturation process. Some get there earlier than others/

1. His ability to understand nothing is perfect but he should never strive less than perfection for himself.

2. His ability to realize when he is wrong and being OK with phirst forgiving himself and learning from his mistake.

3. Realizing that every woman is a woman worth her virtue.

4. Understands that anything that happens is part of God's plan.

5. Lifts as he climbs cause he realizes that he ain't heavy he's his brother.

6. Knows his history and knows in what context to prove it.

7. Most importantly has love for all mankind.

What is a man

A man is child of God that knows his strengths, weaknesses and faults but still aims to be the best husband, the best father and the best servant of God and community.

A man is one who takes and assumes responsibility. He is a way maker and a problem solver. A man is strength, courage and a strong tower.

Yes, I am a man! I'm not what I outta be, but I'm getting better every day."
