Congratulations....make sure you think of some interesting ways to fill in the gaps between to teams.

Like a dance contest or a joke telling contest or like a mini olympic greek games made up of integrated teams of greeks competing in some things like a tug of war or other field games.

I hate it when there is just music playing between the acts cuz most times someone is gonna use it in their show and I am gonna hear that song again.

The Show

Well, the show was last night, and it went pretty well, I must say. Here is a recap of the evening. Sorry if the pics are a bit dark, blame it on the lighting of the venue.

The show was held at Gaston Hall, Georgetown University, which is a pretty decent venue to have a medium sized show. Seats 700 comfortable, and I'd say about 500 people were there. There were two other shows going on in the DC area that night, one at University of Maryland - College Park, and one in Baltimore County.

So the show started late -- of course. But that was mostly because the DJ strolled in when he felt like it. (Or so it seemed.)

So then the show started, and there I was, informing the audience that "I DON'T DO JOKES."

I did the roll call, and there were no Ques, Sigmas, SGRhos, or Iotas in the audience. However, everyone else was there, including LUL, Lambda Pi Chi, and Sigma Lambda Upsilon. Also there was Phi Sigma Sigma. When I gave them their shoutout, I think they either said "O-KAY!" or "WHAT!" but I can't remember which. They were nice girls. :)

So, the first group was APO.

They were deep than a mug last night. The performance was nice, kinda old school in its execution, which was a good thing for me. I don't like a bunch of extras....just give me some good, solid stepping, chanting, and singing. They delivered.

Next was Sigma Lambda Upsilon, which has a chapter down the street at GW.

As most Latina sororities I have seen perform, they were hardcore. Very good, solid stepping. And they were very friendly, too.

Then there was the Kappas.

As much as it pains me to admit it (lol) they were really good. Like, they were GREAT.

Then came the Zetas, from Beta Zeta Chapter, a grad chapter in DC. They get bonus points for being the only team other than GUST to actually use the theme of the show in their routine. ;) They were good.

And then came the Alphas.

They performed some familiar, crowd-pleasing steps. It was nice to see them return to this show, since their chapter always supported it before the show's two year hiatus.

And finally, the Georgetown University Step Team.

http://mulambda.org/guststep01.JPG
The first part of their routine, which you couldn't really hear, was a skit based on the founding of the team. Although the team had more than five founders, it was really accurate and representative of what we did to establish the team. (I was one of the founders.

The skit morphed into a past/present kinda alternating thing. The skit would freeze and some of the other members came out and performed some steps and then left, going back to the skit. Then, they came together and did this really nice step where the "founders" were stepping in the chairs, and the members were stepping while standing. They they switched, then the "founders" went behind the curtain, put the chairs up, and did the quickest costume change I'd ever seen in a show. Very dramatic and crowd-pleasing.

http://mulambda.org/guststep03.JPG
They ended up all wearing those traditional black sorority pants (although more loose-fitting than I would have expected), black tank tops, and teal blue fishnet (kinda) tops. They looked really professional -- way beyond the olden days when we stepped in jeans and Georgetown t-shirts.

Overall, this was a GREAT show, probably the best performance I have seen from GUST ever ever in life. For this to be a rebuilding show (after a 2-year hiatus) I think the team is gonna really go places in the upcoming years. I was really happy to be asked to participate!

But I wouldn't do it again, argh I hated being in front of all those people! lol, luckily it was a very nice crowd and all I had to do was my substitute teacher stare to get them to quiet down.

If any GC heads were there let me know!

(oh yeah, besides enlightenment06, who stepped!)

(and Kamikazee, who also stepped!)

Yes they went from appoint to voting but didn't take a vote. I'd hate for someone to come back and say y'all was having Florida Style elections up in here.
