So I'm looking at Gina1201's signature and I'm waondering if anyone still has this number.

Did anyone ever call this number to see who would answer?

I've never tried calling it. LOL. I'm sure someone has it and gets annoyed by random calls. LOL.

Yeah, like 20 years ago I called. I got a "this number is no longer..." announcement from the phone company.

Back in the 80s when I was a teenager, it used to be a party line. It was where you would dial the number and hear other people. It was all the craze back in the day. You would flirt with the guys and possibly meet them. Kind of like an online chat room I guess.

But after about 6 months the phone company discontinued the number nationwide and the party line was no longer.

It was great fun for us 6th graders!

That is the number for GEM plumbing in Rhode Island. They even use the song to help you remember their number.

I dont get it. Whats the deal with this number?

aephi alum 04-21-2004 07:07 PM

I heard that someone auctioned this number off on ebay a couple of months ago. (212) 867-5309 The tagline was "the greatest number, in the greatest city." ;)

I have no idea what the results of the auction were.

Back in the day when the song was popular, one of the radio stations in Chicago got the number...when you called it you got a recording of Tommy Tutone saying "Hi! This is Tommy Tutone and thank you for listening to my song 867-5309/Jenny on [whatever station it was, I forgot.]. And whether your name is Jenny or not, I love you." My friend and I thought it was the coolest thing. :D

I just did a "reverse lookup" for this number in my area code. It's a wireless number in Bham. I wonder how many calls this guy gets!
