Founders
I was crusing threw some of the boards and since our founders day is coming up this question came to my mind.
If you could meet one of our 12 founders which one would it be and why?? Although Fannie Ann Thompson is my favorite(I love her name) I think I would love to meet Jenny Nicol. I think its amazing that she was a doctor in that time period. It was rare enough for women to go to college but for her to go on to med school I think is amazing and I would love to meet her(maybe her strong will and determination would rub off on me). Suzi |
I'm with you Suzi. Being in the medical field I am very aware of the discrimination that women physicians face even today. It is certainly much better but for a woman to go to medical school in the 1860s would take great determination and strength of character. Of the 12, Jenny Nichol has always been my favorite (although if we're talking names, I always though Inez Smith Soule sounded like a great name)

good question.. i ended up pulling out my binder just to reread excerts on each of the founders to learn more.. its been a little while since I have read these..
..it was hard to pick just one.. I would have to say Inez Smith Soule.. bc it spoke up her loyalty, independence, cheerfulness, and keen wit :) . I think those are just great qualities.. and its seems like she would be an enjoyable person to be around. my favorite name though is.. Emma Brownlee Kilgore.. even though it was her and Clara's maiden names, I think Brownlee is a neat middle name. |
I would love to meet Emma Brownlee Kilgore and Clara Brownlee Hutchinson, because they were two of the first to come up with the idea of a national women's fraternity. I would love to know why they were motivated to do so and where they found the strength to stand up to those who taunted them at "Ignorant Children".
