Eastern Star?
 

I just found out that my Grandfather was Mason. He passed away several years ago but from what I understand this knowledge makes me eligible to become an Eastern Star. Am I correct and can anyone tell me more about the orgaization? (excluding secrets of course)

My friend is related to a mason and is in Job's Daughters and she's standing here telling me and I'm typing to tell you.

The Easter Star is the organization that combines the Masons with their wives or women in general. Each point has a name and respresents a symbol. If you're related to a Mason and are eligible to be a Job's Daughter until 21, and you can be an Eastern Star starting at 18. She said there is a website:

Your eligibility to become a member of the Order of the Eastern Star depends on what affiliation your Grandfather belonged to as a Mason. There are different affiliatons of the Masons and Order of Eastern Stars. They all have different foundations and protocol for accepting new members. So it is very important to know what affiliation you are interested in joining. If you know what affiliation your Grandfather was a member of I encourage you to talk to members of the Order of Eastern Star or Masons within the same affiliation as your Grandfather... they will be the best resources for you to get information.

If you do not know any Eastern Stars or Masons I encourage you to contact the Grand Chapter (or governing jurisdiction- for the particular affiliation that you are interested in joining) in your state for additional information. You should be able to find this information in the telephone book or by doing a search on the internet.

Also... check your local newspaper for announcements about upcoming events of local chapters in your area and attend if your schedule permits. This will help you get to know the members of the local chapters in your area and also give them the opportunity to get to know you.

If at all possible, find out the name of your grandfather's lodge and if he was in good standing at the time of his death. My grandfather was a Mason, but he was not in good standing when he died. That kept me out of Eastern Star for years, until they passed a rule that majority Rainbow Girls could join. I love Eastern Star and have been a member for about 2 and a half years.
