What Kind of Service Projects Do All of You Do?
Hello ladies and gentlemen!
Our South Puget Sound Alumnae Panhell (Tacoma/Olympia, WA) seems to be getting off the ground well! It was very exciting to meet so many ladies from different organizations! Question...what kind of service projects do your groups do? Please bear in mind that we are small and just getting off the ground, but we are thinking that maybe one meeting a year is focused completely on service and then performing some kind of service project. I have looked on all the NPC groups websites that have joined so far and for the most part all the groups are focused on children either directly or indirectly. It is interesting that all the groups are also diverse in their service focus as well. Anyway, if any of you are more than willing to share some ideas and also maybe what your group does that would be most appreciated! Thanks!! :) |
Our alumnae chapter collects "things" for a local women's domestic shelter. You can get lists of needed items from the shelter itself. Ours always needs lots of diapers, formula, baby wipes, etc. They also collect old cell phones to program for 911 for women when they leave the shelter. We each brought a pack of diapers to our first several meetings and completely filled up their diaper closet!
My Cub Scouts go every year to a community wide Metro Park clean up. We are assigned an area, given bags and gloves and pick up as much trash as we can in the allotted time. You could check with local national/state/area parks to see if they organize something similar. All kinds of different organizations are at the Metro Park clean up that we do. I was thinking of telling one of the more local collegiate chapters about it next year. It would be fun to see them all out there in letters. At this particular park, they give you lunch and a free pass to the wave pool there for helping out! Race for the Cure occurs in all metro areas and is for a cause that is important to all women. You could encourage all the alumnae in the area to come out for that, wearing letters, and invite the area collegiate chapters too! Dee |

I found something I thought was cute on a local Panhellenic website... they have an annual Pound Auction. Members bring a pound of something, wrapped up so it can't be identified, and the wrapped items are auctioned off, with the proceeds benefitting a charity. Everyone opens up what they've won, and it seems to be great fun!
