The Swan (More reality TV). . .
Anybody watching/watch The Swan on Fox?
Here's yet another show to keep me up at night! :) |
Yes.
I think they should all be able to compete. I was a little worried about the blonde when she didn't make it. Her self esteem is so fragile, I hope she focuses on the positive (her new self) and not get caught up that she didn't make it. |
Forgot names...
This thread was too far down. I didn't see it! :p
The airline attendant had me worried. I thought she didn't like her new self. Those behind her were  at first too. I knew the red head chick was going to advance. The attendant STILL didn't have the self confidence needed to advance. How do they determine who will advance? What happened to the red head's husband. I'm glad they allowed the attendant's boyfriend and family come. :D |

Kelly needed the transformation but she still has so much to do internally. That blonde hair was SUCH A BAD IDEA!!!! |
I liked the transformation of both of them; I did think it was a definite improvement. But CT4, I think you're right about Rachel's husband. How 'bout ol' boy talking 'bout "she's average", and saying it like it's no big deal, and he desperately needed an eyebrow transplant?
Kelly does seem to have desperate self-esteem problems. Hopefully this helped her out, but I wonder if it'll send her deeper into the abyss because she wasn't chosen to advance through the competition? I also hope that the 3 months of talking with the therapist helped her some too (although she'll probably need more therapy). |
I haven't watched the show, but I saw the previews....I didn't see any Black women. Are there any?
|
The premise for this show bothers me. First you find these women who start out with fragile self esteem, give them a makeover and their esteem is boosted only to to get a kick in the teeth to find out they won't make it to the beauty pagent. Maybe I have the wrong take on it but we'll see.

I think the show was ridiculous. The girls looked better. But who wouldn't after $25K in surgery and training, a prom dress on, professional makeup artist, etc? They are still going to have to learn to like themselves because when the makeup comes off and they have on jeans and a tshirt, they are not going to look like a beauty queen.
It's also sad because they went through all of that and it was stuff that they could have done on their own. I mean a trip to a salon for hair and makeup and a nice outfit can make anyone's day. I'm not really feeling the contestants. |
I agree with you Conskeeted. I haven't watched the show myself, but I have to exhaust every option I have before before thinking about going under the knife. I know most women would think that if they had the money to spare, they would get it done too...would you really? To be honest, I am noticing a trend with some of the shows on now...Extreme Makeover, I Want a Famous Face, and The Swan....all involve cosmetic surgery. When did a day at the salon stop being enough? I know I need a personal trainer and a dermatologist myself, but to go as far as cut stuff out and/or off? I believe that is a bit much. I believe you are all right when you say it is a self-esteem issue. I used to believe that we lived by a "fast food" lifestyle, now we are turning into a "nip-n-tuck" society. I don't think I will watch TV as much in the future.

Vanda---get out of my head!!! That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. Also, these women will never be truly happy....it's human nature to be not-so-satisfied with parts of yourself. After all this surgery (not to mention the physical pain involved) these women are still going to look in the mirror and find something to be unhappy about. Their lowered-self esteem took YEARS to develop and it's supposed to go away after surgery and a couple of months of therapy? Anybody watch MTV's "I Want A Famous Face"....now they give it to you straight with no chaser. You actually see just how painful plastic surgery can be. |
I agree with U too, Ladylike. I dunno...I think both of those shows are just a sign of how crazy the world really is. I mean, somebody will actually go through all of that pain to "have a famous face". It's kinda sickening. And now we know, that most of the stars that look all beautiful in the face probably has had some type of makeover. Tripped out!

I don't have any children, but I have to wonder what are the parents of some of these people like. I mean, how can you let your child feel inferior or ugly? If they get teased in school, it is a parent's job to make them feel good when they get home. And then those poor girls go out and get hubbies and bf's who put the same sick thoughts in their heads. I couldn't believe the one guy who called his woman just average. My mother made me feel very proud of who I am and what I look like. I believe that confidence is about 80% of looking pretty. No one looks attractive with their eyes downcast and head hung low. But it's really sad to see how low some of these people feel about themselves and to know that their families, in most instances, didn't care or try to make it better.

Thanks for reminding me of who's who. :D
I think Kelly's father and brother seemed a lil.... (That's only because I work with the "special population and their parents".) |
Now's that' the mess I'm talking 'bout..
How in the world is the one woman's husband going to call her "average?" :o How are you going to think that about your mate? I've dated men that may be average to somebody else but may be fine to me (or vice versa).
What's the point of getting them 3-months of therapy and placing them back into the same home situation (a raggedy husband and a raggedy daddy)? I really think the whole family should have gotten counseling. The married women has lowered self-esteem due to her upbringing and she is married to a man who affirms all of the negative things she believes about herself. Delph---did you see the episode of "I Want a Famous Face" where the woman wanted to look like Pamela Anderson. Heyelll...Pamela Anderson was built....there's nothing natural about her. |
