Grateful
I just wanted to take a minute out of our busy lives and tell each and every one of the GC Alpha Gams how grateful I am that this forum is such a positive place.
I am so proud of the fact that, even though we are all very different, we almost unfailingly treat each other with love and respect as SISTERS. No matter how crazy life gets, I know that the Alpha Gamma Delta forum is an oasis of friendship, good humor, and (usually, but not always! ;)) sanity. Thank you and red and buff roses to all of you for that! :) |
a big WOO WOOO to that!

AMEN SISTER!
You know, we're all different and we come from different walks of life. We might not always be perfect shining examples of what an Alpha Gam "should" be nor do we get along 100% of the time, but we respect and care for one another nevertheless, and that's what's very special. One thing's for sure though. Y'all are great examples of "Epsilon Pi", and I am privileged to have you all as my sisters. |
OKEY DOKEY!
:)

I third that motion! (or 4th or 5th it or whatever!)

Sisters only side...
I wish that we had a secure, secure site (you know, something that no one could ever get into through backdoors and stuff) so that we could all gather at one "virtual" place and share ritual together.
I think that would be an awesome event... to "join" together via the web and share the special event with each of my cybersisters. I don't know if Fireside is done the same everywhere, but I think of this thread as a Mini-Fireside. You all make my life grander for knowing each and everyone of you. 5 words to each of you. |

This semester's Fireside is going to be super, ULTRA emotional (for me, anyway) because my sister-great-granddaughter will soon be joining our Sisterhood! |
Arin, I'm HOPING that the revised IHQ member site will be such a site. Here's hoping it's available before convention!:D
Unfortunately, there are unknown hackers. (Which I would to do to them like those that were killing and eating a squirrel on Turner South yesterday...I couldn't turn the channel fast enough, lol). |
What was your fireside song?
Since we are talking about firesides, which I loved too...
What was the format that you used for them? We sang "Candle Lighting Time" and then if it was a pinning or engagement we would sing "She's An Alpha Gam" after the announcement... Then, if we had a sisterhood fireside we would maybe have certain girls read or say whatever was on their mind and maybe some girls would play "Special Family" or we would sing "Friends" and/or each pledge class might sing their pledge class song. Ours was to "The Rose". I think that for the 50th Anniversary I am going to suggest that we plan a fireside for one of the events...wouldn't that be awesome? Just like the feeling that I got when there we so many Alpha Gam's in one room for Initiation at Convention. That was a "wow" moment. |
Since TU is just going to celebrate our 5th birthday, Firesides are still getting organized. When I was a collegiate, we only had sisterhood Firesides. We didn't really sing any songs, but was mostly sisters talking about AGD and their time.
Candlelights were only singing, with the top ten reasons why you love them following. I really wish that I had the tune to Candlelighting Time. I think it is a very pretty song. Question... at my school we had one group that made it very well known that they were having a candlelight by advertising (with posters) that it was going to happen... does your chapter or any other GLO's on your campus advertise to the student body about a private sorority function? |
Firesides were posted in the house...
Posters telling girls to come to the Firesides were posted in the house when it was a pinning or whatever...it was fun sneaking around and putting up the posters, then the girls that you wanted to read you would sneak the reading into their box...with a note "read at the fireside".
The pretty candle with the ring or the pin would go to our housemother, Hazel (who is in heaven now :( ) and she would come out with the candle lit and then we would all sing. Hazel was a big part of our AGD family. For sisterhood firesides they were usually required events and it was kind of the same like the sunshine and/or sisterhood chair would pick girls to read and then we might all have an "open" time to talk or maybe the President or whatever would speak and then we would sing... Ah...I miss college tonight...:( |
rachel, that sounds like so much fun. i'm all jealous now! since we didn't have a house, if we were going to have a candlepass for a laveliering, engagement, whatever it was done before chapter the next week since that was the only time we knew we'd all be together. except for the year that one girl's boyfriend proposed to her during her candlepass at formal. she didn't know the candlepass was for her.

I had three candlelights for lavaliered, pinned and engaged. Mr.P sent a rose to the President each time requesting a Candlelight Tonight. So no one knew, until I blew out the candle. It was so sweet. They are some of my fondest memories.
We sand a song that began..." for me there's a maid who is lovely and fairest of all of the maidens around"... I can't remember much more. I wonder if anyone has had a candlelight at Convention. This will be my 4th consectutive. I am unsure of prior Conventions, though. M |
Candlelight at Convention...that would be very cool!!! But it would take a very long time, lol. :D
