Camp Alphie
I received this email about Camp Alphie:
Each year Camp Alphie hosts a camp for children who have cancer or have had cancer. We do this at no expense to the family. We also recognize that this is a traumatic time for the parents, so a parent’s support camp is held in conjunction with the children’s camp, again, at no expense to the family. Over the past 18 years, we continue to hear how this experience of sharing and survival makes such a difference in the lives of the whole family. Camp Alphie could not serve these children and families without the generous support of others. The camp operates entirely on donations and through the support of a volunteer staff, Board, and generous community members and businesses. Camp Alphie is a non-profit organization and registered with the IRS as a 501(C)3 corporation. Where does Alpha Delta Pi fit in to all of this? Alumna Betty Sterquell and the Amarillo alumnae spent several years dreaming, planning and creating Camp Alphie. It is our job to make certain that this camp stays strong and continues far into the future. For many years, ADPi’s were involved in every aspect of this camp. Today, we see a counselor and a donation here and there. Let’s put Camp Alphie back in the limelight of Alpha Delta Pi! Camp 2004 is scheduled for August 1st – August 6th, 2004. It will be held at Ceta Canyon Methodist Camp (30 minutes south of Amarillo, Texas). The cost for one week of camp is approximately $250 per child. We are in need of counselors (male especially, all must be over 18), volunteers, donations, and prayers. Contact me today at one of the options listed below and let’s get busy! Please share this message with all your ADPi sisters! Please PM me if you want the email address to get more info - or to volunteer! |

Update on Camp Alphie 2005
HB - Clean out your PM box!
"Camp Alphie will be held July 24-29th. (our media person moved and we have not been able to update our website!) Camp staff must be at camp Saturday, July 23rd, mid-afternoon until Friday, July 29th early afternoon. Positions are volunteer with no monetary compensation. We are located very close to the Amarillo Rick Husband Airport. We do our best to house you if you need to come early or stay later than those dates. We can also help out with transportation once you are here. " They are in the process of sending out staff applications and will send/email me more info when available. |
Cleaned out! Sorry about that!
Thanks for the info, this is great! Do you have the website as well? |
Unfortunately, the website - www.campalphie.com - hasn't been updated since their tech person left... (I know that feeling ALL too well!)
I do have an email address for the Pi who in on the Camp Board. I will PM to those interested. |

More info for 2005
I received an email w/the application and the following information:
"In addition to counselor positions, we have other volunteer opportunities related to camp. We need relief counselors to step in and give our regular staffers a break during the day. We also need help with the dance on the last night of camp (planning, decorating, cleanup, etc.). If possible, we would like to have ADPi allumni and collegiates take care of dance night entirely. If someone has a special talent (music, magic, art, etc.) they may be interested in using that skill with our campers." What an awesome volunteer opportunity! PM me if you'd like the application |
I actually volunteer at the Muscular Dystrophy Association camp that is held at Ceta Canyon Methodist Camp. I just wanted to mention that it is a beautiful and well-kept facility. I've been volunteering at the particular MDA camp for 8 years now and every year they continue to updates and additions.
If I were closer to Amarillo during that time I'd be happy to help out, but unfortunately I'm not. |
