Prostitution - Yea or Nay?

(1) Have you ever hired a prostitute
(2) If so, why?
(3) If not, why not?
(4) If you were thinking about it, would you hire more then one?

No to all of your questions. I know three former prostitutes. Two were literally sold to pimps when they were 14-15, and the other one's "boyfriend" forced her into it. All three are now married to men who know of their pasts - men for whom I have tremendous respect.

Can't say that I could EVER see prostitution as a victimless crime!

1) No
2) N/A
3) Seems slimy, and don't really have the need. However, I would like to get married one day, and marriage is probably a form of prostitution.
4) Why not

And it is a victemless crime when performed by a consenting adult. That some will force someone to do anything, should not negate an adult's right to choose that behavior.

By your responses, you admit that you do not know any prostitutes. One hundred percent of those I do know were not consenting parties to prostitution. How do you know how many adults truly consent to selling their bodies?

1) No
2) N/A
3) Assuming a) I was not with/could not be with anyone else and b) wanted something other than solo sex - I'd end up feeling like I could only get sex if I paid for it if I did that (be bad for my esteem). I don't think it's a good option for people who want to learn more about sex either; they'd probably be better off looking at sexual surrogacy rather than assisted masturbation with a prostitute.
4) IF I was? I suppose?.

100% of a sampling of 3? That hardly makes anyone an expert. There is a difference between forced behavior, and consensual behavior. You are correlating all prostitution to forced behavior. In those cases where this happens, it should be illegal. In those cases where a woman wants to make $5,000/week turning tricks, I'd rather that it be legal, regulated, and taxed.

Yes to all. And I love them. I met AXJules when she was being rented out by a leper in Calcutta for 1 rupee. She was so charming, I forgot about her torrid past.

3. The opportunity hasn't conveniently presented itself.
4. Yuppers

I have met several prostitutes . . . I am not sure how exploited they were, they made a lot of money.

I too knew a prostitute who used to live in Detroit. She came to Atlanta to escape and was promised a place at her brother's. When she got here, her brother decided that he didn't want her around, so she kinda got back into what she was doing. When I met her at a party, we talked for a long time...tears were involved and I offered to help her. As far as I know, she's ok now though I haven't talked to her in a long time. She lived with me for a few months until she figured out what to do.

I saw the film 'Monster' recently (Christina Ricci, Charlize Theron). Not ultra related to theme of this thread so just a passing comment.

I think legalized controlled prostitution is a great idea.

It might be a nice social lubricant.

It was a rickshaw and you gave me more than one rupee's worth because you'd never seen a wheel before.
