Naming your children after founders...

I'm stealing this topic from the greek life forum.

Would you and which name for a boy or girl?

My response from the original post:

Quote:

  • Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little
  • Vivian White Marbury
  • Bessie Downey Rhoades Martin
  • Cubena McClure
  • Dorothy Hanley Whiteside
  • Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson
  • Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford

Hmmm.. I love my founders but all of these names are a little to old school for me but but if I had to choose , Annette is the winner.

ETA:
For a boy, Elias Dorsey (Iota Phi Theta) for first and middle names, Langston Taylor (Phi Beta Sigma)also for first and middle names, and Ernest (Omega Psi Phi).:D

I've always thought Vivian was a pretty name. :D

I'd only name a kid Eugene, after Eugene Kinckle Jones....I've got too many other names lined up for my kids, including a few deceased friends and relatives.

Well, I like Vivian...

But I have never thought of naming one of my kids for one of the founders. It is a good idea, because they were really great women.

I mean, when you got folks naming their kids Tanqueray, Tequila, Hennessey, Corvosier, etc. a founder is one of the more staid choices. ;)

I think I would pick Vivian or Allison.....

My fav is Cubena, I always want to know more about her. But, I don't want to have kids.......but, if I had a pet, I wouldnt' name it after the founders, it seems a little disrespectful, even if it's a poodle.

IFFFFFF, I even did have a girl though, I would go with Vivan, her nickname would be Vivi, and she would have musical talent [fictional baby r4l gets it from her fictional papa ;)]

For boys, I've always been a fan of naming them junior or the third, b/c it helps them remember where they came from and keep them connected to their families.

I posted in the other thread

My founders:
Ethel Hedgeman Lyle
Marjorie Hill
Lucy D. Slowe
Lillie Burke
Anna E. Brown
Marie Woolfolk Taylor
Beulah E. Burke
Margaret Flagg Holmes
Lavinia Norman
Norma Boyd
Ethel J. Mowbray
Alice P. Murray
Sarah M. Nutter
Joanna B. Shields
Carrie E. Snowden
Harriett J. Terry

I have to agree with NinjaPoodle, the names are a little dated. However, I do like the name Lillie (but, Lily or Lili). I REALLY want to name my daughter Ivy (first or middle name)

Definately Vivian.

gotta keep it real

i love the founders just as much as the rest of my beautiful sorors, but i'm not naming ANY of my children after the founders... (i would consider vivian, but my grandfather, and his daughter who is my aunt, already have that name---> my kid's gotta be an ORIGINAL!)
