Hey that's irony. I just replied to another one of your posts, Ideal, saying that I don't mess with the federal government.

I will openly say that I hate the US Federal Government. They are a bunch of spendthrifts! I get irritated on the 5th and 15th of every month because of the amount of taxes that are taken out and used innapropriately. Sometimes I think people don't know the half of govenment spending.

I mean, don't get me wrong. Medicare and the like are good programs. I am also a big fan of savings bonds. But how much of our money really goes to the positive programs like education?

When a federal employee is transferred to Washington, DC they are often housed in the most ritzy area's. Most of the time they are living in buildings where the rent is upwards of $2,000 PER MONTH. This is not a 'guestiment'. I have been in some of these apartments. We pay for that!

My cousin was transferred to Lyon last year and the federal gov't is paying for her child to attend a SWISS BOARDING SCHOOL. We are paying for that!

When the president has a gala event and serves expensive dishes and provides horrendously expensive entertainment for his guests who pays for it? Yup! US!

Recently the head of the Justice Department was fired when it was discovered that he was hiring his UNQUALIFIED golf buddies and paying them all salaries of $100,000+ a year. Who paid for that? WE DID.

The Federal Government taxes us to death and then spends our money like it's nothing. Loans, bonds, and everything else still do not make up for the money they waste. But to answer your question, I really don't think that they will readily tell the general public everything.

Do they ever?

Where do our taxes go?

Does anyone know if there is a way to find out EXACTLY where our taxes go? Like, can I go online or request from the IRS a breakdown of how my taxes are distributed?

For example, say they take $10,000 from me in a year. Can I get a list that says $5k went to education, $1k went to health care, $2k went to highway/road construction, etc.?

Don't know for certain, but I think this is how it works. The government takes the whole of what they collect from the entire nation and then based on the established budget they give a certain percentage to each program.
So say they take 10,000 per year from your check and the budget allots eight percent to education. Essentially, $800 goes to education. As far as a site that deliniates the budget, I don't know one off hand. Let me get back to you.
