Columbus residents?
 

If you havent noticed but I will be moving from Cleveland, Ohio to Columbus, Ohio in about 3 weeks. I was wondering if anybody was from that area and where are the good places to shop and etc. Ill be leaving in the Pickerington area, so if anyone is from that area holla at me. thanks:D

i'm not in Columbus (Cincy, actually) but i can tell you about shopping. check out Easton Town Center (i believe that's its correct name), Polaris Mall which is off of 71N just past 270, DSW and Filene's off of 270 and the Outlets in Jeffersonville, south of Columbus. now that the alleged Highway Shooter has been caught, i can't wait to go up there:D

Thanks Wendy cause shopping is definitely something I would be interested in. Its sad because I only been to Columbus a few times to visit the university but outside of OSU i know nothing about the campus.

RainMain: I love your profile. Wow Columbus definitely sounds like a good place to live and start a family. If you know of any good churches let me know that too.

Also Anybody know any good beauty shops, its going to be hard leaving my beautician in cleveland :(.?

Well, if you recall from your visits, the OSU campus area is a really run-down, ghetto-esque part of Columbus (South and East Campus especially). The Neil Ave/Victoria Village area isn't bad by contrast. However, Campus Partners is renovating South Campus; they tore down all the run-down ugly bars, restarants, and shops and is replacing them with modern buildings and facilities. Construction is currently in progress and will continue for well into 2005.

Well, I personally have went to only three churches in my life:

Pleasant View Baptist (1978-89)
Wesley United Methodist (1990-98)
Ambassadors For Christ (1999-present).

Some of the major churches I know of include:

World Harvest (also has a full-fledged Bible College)
Vineyard of Columbus (VERY popular choice for teens and 20somethings)
First Church of God
New Covenant Believers Church
All Nations Church
Living Faith Apostolic Church
New Salem Baptist
Columbus Christian Center (Tri C)
Mt. Olivet Baptist(?) Church
Mt. Herman Baptist(?) Church

Thanks RainMan! All the information that you have given is definitely beneficial. I have heard of that church Tri-C I think the pastor there is Pastor Forbes. That is the church that my husband wants to visit. But I would look into most if not all the churches you listed Thanks Again you really helped a lot..:D :D

I will also be moving to Columbus in August. I'll be looking for a beautician as well so if anyone has a place...please help a sistah out! Also, where are some nice places to live that is within 10 minutes max. of OSU?

One of the nicest places to live w/in 10 mins. of OSU is Upper Arlington. Be warned, though, it is rather pricey as far as apt. rent and eateries goes. Another quick and nice choice is Clintonville (an "inner city" community in Columbus). Those are the only ones I can think of off the top 'o my head. Everywhere else you havta deal with freeways and potential traffic headaches, to say the least.

NEW SALEM BAPTIST, Pastor Troy

I used to get my hair done at a Fiesta out on Broad Street on the East Side. Ask for TRACEY and tell her CARLA (the teacher) sent you.

I would recommend off of the 161 area. I lived there and loved it. My first year I lived very close to UA (off of Henderson Road, THE FALLS is the apt. complex -- all 1 br apts with washer dryer hookups). Ask for specials for OSU students.

Some other options to look at are Grandview which is like Upper Arlington (as Rain Man suggested) but on a smaller scale. You could also consider the "Short North" which is also close to campus. If you are an OSU student you will be in good company because plenty of undergrad/grad students live in the area.

Another shopping option is Polaris Fashion Place (mall) which has Saks, Lazarus-Macy's (a rung or two below Saks) and possibly Lord and Taylor's. Easton Town Center has Lazarus-Macy's, Nordstrom's, BCBG, Aldo's shoe's. Unfortunately, you won't find a lot of shopping downtown. :(

Some parts of the Short North is a'ight (read: fairly decent), but a considerable part of the Short North is, well, ghetto-esque. Try Victorian Village along Neil Ave. and runs right into OSU. That is considerably better.

Well, there's City Center Mall in the heart of downtown, but with Lazarus-Macy's closing in August and the mall at about 60-70% occupancy (starting to turn into Westland Mall 2 with all the vacant shops), City Center is in the TOILET!

Ok Im familiar with New Salem. My father knew Pastor Troy a long time ago back when he was in Warren, Ohio I believe. It sure is a small world.

Yes...certain parts of the Short North around Neil Avenue are GREAT! I lived there and loved it. :D It's going through a period of gentrification.

It's pretty in the Spring time....you can walk your dog or go running/jogging. It's very close to downtown (within walking distance if you like the excercise).

Downtown would not be the first place I would suggest shopping at. Downtown pretty much becomes a ghost-town after 6pm when everyone leaves from work. After that it becomes inhabited by groups of teenagers who are just looking to hook-up. :o :rolleyes:

For shopping Easton is good during the weekdays but during the weekends...:eek: it is also inhabited by LOADS of teen-agers who act like they weren't raised right. :o

I'm just saying all this to warn you ahead of time so when you see it you won't be :eek: . :D

Thanks CT4, Rainman, and ladylike. I willl be checking your suggested locations. I still haven't decided whether I'm going to do graduate housing or the off-campus thing. I will have to make another trip pretty soon.

CT4, thanks for the referral. It's nothing like moving to a new city without a recommended beautician. :rolleyes:
