Have you seen this - i'm hot as a 45
YOU MAY WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE
In case you didn't know! Google has implemented a new feature wherein you can type someone's telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and then you will be given a map to their house. Think about it.. if a child, single person, ANYONE gives out his/her phone number, someone can actually now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. This is not a hoax; Mapquest will actually put a star on your house on your street. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: www.google.com or http://www.google.com http://www.google.com/ and type your phone number in the search bar with dashes (i.e.123-555-1212) and hit enter. NOTE: If your phone number is not publicly listed, you should be fine. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on the telephone icon to the left of your phone number. You will see a link near the bottom where you are allowed to REMOVE yourself. |
I don't think this is anything to get worked up about
I think the phonebook/map listings are only limited to those who already have their name in the phone books to begin with. As far as address, well, that is also listed in the phone book as well. A lack of a map is no more of a deterrent to finding someone's house than asking somebody at a gas station.
My home phone number is not listed in the book, thus not listed in Google. Again, if your number is unlisted, you shouldn't have a problem with being listed and mapped in Google. If your number is unlisted and you find a map and phone number in Google, well, that's another issue altogether. |
