Cross-Council Relationships
So many GCers have talked about how separated organizations under the various Greek councils are. I'd like to hear from those of you who have developed relationships across NIC, NPC, NPHC, NALFO, MGC, etc.
Are you continuing these relationships and what kinds of activities do you do together? And onto the juicy stuff...have any of you had romantic cross-council relationships (I, of course, mean a member of your org and a member of another council's org hooking up, dating, or whatever) that prompted your chapters to extend Greek love?? |
Delta Sigma Theta and APO were cool on my campus while I was there. It started when I was an APO pledge at the same time one of my good friends was a Pyramid....it continued when another APO Brother was dating a Delta.
It kinda fizzled out though. |
We were pretty separate, but, in general, we had respect for one another and mingled, at times. My chapter was particularly close with the Sigma Chis (I love Sigma Chis :)), KAs, and Pi Beta Phis. I had some close associates in almost every group, though.
But, to understand division within Greekdom, you have to understand division outside of Greekdom. That's all I'll say about that. |

Here at NCSU, coucils seem to stay at opposite corners. Since DG is new to the school and we have the opportunity to do things our way, we really wanted to get involved across all the councils. When planning our first Anchor Splash (our big philanthrophy event) we were excited about inviting all of the councils (NPC, IFC, NPHC, and Collaborate Greek Council - CGC). We were very dissapointed when NONE of the NPHC Fraternities and Sororities responded and only one group from CGC was interested. It really upset us because we so badly wanted to bring the Greek Community together some. I guess we'll continue to try with mixers and stuff...but maybe it's "too late" for our campus. :(

We had an exchange with an Asian sorority last yr. I believe we're the only IFC house to do a social event with a sorority outside Panhellenic.
And I believe Gamma Phi Beta did something with Gamma Phi Epsilon, a multicultural fraternity. |

College campuses simply mirror what's going on around them. Greekdom relationships simply mirror what's going on at that campus. Barriers aren't broken by simply "inviting" other organizations to participate in certain events. There has to be consistent and genuine effort from both sides. |
What is a sad commentary is that On THe National Levels, there is relationships among many of the Greek Orgaizations for the common good,
but on the Local level, this does not seem to happen.:( It may behoove the Local Greek Organizations Governing Councils to try to hold meetings and have an over all Greek Showing for say a Charity Event, Clean a Park, work with Special Olympics, or what ever to show a solidarity of TOTAL GREEKS! But, just my inner most thoughts!:) |
I’m the chairman of the Greek Programming Council; this organization was formed to promote Greek unity amongst all the councils through event planning and participation. As far as romantic endeavors it is a rare occurrence.

When I was an active, we developed some good friendships with a few of the men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Also, the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. as well as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. were very kind and supportive of us when we first started out (we were the first LGLO on our campus). It always meant a lot.
We had a BUNCH of IFC fraternities invite us to dinner at their chapter houses. We once had a party at one of the IFC fraternity houses in conjunction with another of our chapters and two chapters of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. That was a lot of fun!! |

As for the Juicy stuff, we had a few Brothers that went out with some of the members of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority. |
When we did our Greek Week when I was in school, we were paired with Kappa Alpha Psi for the "Greek Sing", and let me just tell you, we had a blast!! They taught us a step routine (or whatever they called it that I can't remember!), and we so won the Greek Sing with them. They were really incredible guys at that time...
On the romantic tip, my sorority sister and old roommate is getting married to a KAPsi in June! How's that for Cross-Council!! |
