Announcement from the Shippensburg Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAMBDA CHI ALPHA PROPERTIES, INC. COMPLETES PURCHASE OF 101 BROOKSIDE AVE March 25, 2004 – SHIPPENSBURG, PA – Lambda Chi Alpha Properties, Inc., an Indiana non-profit corporation, is pleased to announce that it has completed the purchase of 101 Brookside Avenue, Shippensburg. The property is a fraternity house currently occupied by the Acacia fraternity. Lambda Chi Alpha Properties is the national house corporation for the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. It owns or manages fraternity houses on 15 campuses across North America. “The purchase of the Shippensburg property is part of our initiative to provide safe, professionally-managed housing for our members throughout the country” according to Joseph Klimek, Chief Operating Officer for the properties corporation. The property on Brookside Avenue will eventually house the local Lambda Chi Alpha chapter. Locally, the Phi-Tau chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha has 40 student members and over 370 alumni members. It was founded locally in 1982 and has been in continuous operation throughout that time. The local chapter is involved with the community through an annual food drive, the adopt a highway program, and participation with other community groups. Brenda Lutovsky, Shippensburg University Director of Greek affairs offered “I am excited about Lambda Chi Alpha Properties’ purchase of the Brookside Ave property for the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. A permanent house under LCAP’s management will certainly serve as a boon to the group as they continue to grow. Through this acquisition, it is our hope that Lambda Chi Alpha and LCAP will set the bar for other groups and how fraternity and sorority houses are used.” The purchase of the property has been made possible with financial support of the alumni of the chapter. The purchase has been financed through M&T Bank. The fraternity house will provide living space for up to 20 students and has large common spaces that will host the entire student chapter. Additional information on Lambda Chi Alpha at Shippensburg University is available at www.phitauzeta.org. |
Brother Lenox, congratulations on the new House!
Having seen Pictures of Old and New is hard to tell which is the bigger! Hope you can get new indoor photos up soon! Am very Glad for the Brothers at The Shipp!:D Go Bros At Phi Tau! |
Congratulations, that looks like a great house and the possiblities are endless on giving it the LCA touch. Once you guys are settled i smell a road trip. ;)
What happened to ACACIA, why did they get rid of the house? |
Ok, First Tom
#1- This house is about twice as large as the current house. More bedrooms, and tons of common space. Even has a fireplace. Built more like a fraternity house than an apartment building. Huge yard as, it seems like a park. #2- I was unable to get some nice new indoor photos this week after closing as the house was a real mess. The ones I have are from last may during one of our old site visits. So I may not have any new photos suitable for the public for a while. There are some indoor ones on our website however. Ok now Mooch #1- After being involved with this for over a year, the answer to why acacia got rid of that house is quite complex. I can tell you that through research I think what that fraternity did to build that house in 1988-89 was nothing short of incredible. It is the nicest and largest house at all of our 14 Pa state schools (excluding Penn State). However the chapter had become unable to handle it, and we came at that point. So to put it simply : Dont take anything for granted. |
lenoxx, just rechecked the PT web site. It shows differnent pix than I thought I saw. The house I saw originally looked like a big brick box.
These new Pictures are Fantasic! Maybe I was checking greekpages.com? Damn this is a Chapter House to be very proud of and I am sure you were instrumental in attaining it!:) Looks like a lot of work to really get it up to your standards, but knowing you and some of the Brothers at Phi Tau am sure it will be a jewel. Hope you make sure it is added to the LCAP picture page of Our International web site! |
Congrats!!!
Its a great house. Clearly needs some work, but thats the funnest part of the house - WORK DAYS. Plus the labor is free - round up all the brothers and AM's. Loved Saturday Work Days. High Pi at UIW jealous for his boys.... And thinking that Since Phi-Tau Zeta and Phi-Upsilon Zeta are THE EXACT SAME AGE theres no reason the same couldnt happen at UTSA with some hard work. |
Here are some more details on the new Phi Tau House:
- 6,000 sq ft - 10 bedrooms which are all on the second floor and a few of which are big enough to fit 3-4 brothers. The house occupancy will be 20 men. - Large Chapter room on first floor - Large game room including a slate pool table on first floor - Small kitchen and large dining area on first floor - The house sits on approx 3 acres of land which includes a sand volleyball court and a perimiter of trees - A large "Social Gathering" structure is attached to one side of the house in place of the traditional basement party room. - The house was built in 1988-89 for Acacia by Acacia Alumni Don't forget to visit www.phitauzeta.org for more information. Tom Earp, the pictures you were looking at the first time you went to our website were of the former Pi Kap house. It is possible that we will live in the old Pi Kap house for a year prior to moving into 101 Brookside Ave. |
Leisure, thanks for the update! That is what happened!
How come a year? Looks like work needs to be done on it, but God what a Jewell this new house will be for the Brothers of Phi Tau! Would love to move it to Pittsburg, Ks, to be our new house!:) Is there any architectuaral plans for it?? We have some that one of Our Guys did, but I have always been particle to English Tudor!!!!!!!!!!! See the ENVY! |
Don't forget guys - I got dibs on the sound system. I got the wish list ready to go...
