Florida Tech Panhellenic Extension

So I just found out that some time next month, Alpha Xi Delta and Phi Sigma Sigma will be down here to present to Florida Tech's Panhellenic. We have a local sorority here that would like to associate with a national group. How exciting! I'm so disappointed that I won't be a collegiate for this.

What other groups are on Florida Tech's campus?

For a moment there, I was like huh? Before the name was changed to U of Central Florida, WE were Florida Tech! :)

Good luck with the expansion!

Where in FL is Melbourne?

It's on the East coast - south of Orlando.

ETA: here is a link to the page with their sororities: http://www.fit.edu/activities/greeklife/sororities.html

40 miles from Kennedy Space Center. Yay for watching launches from campus. :D

Well, we actually have a pretty strong contingent in Florida, although many of our "larger" chapters closed in the 80s/90's, including the University of Florida and University of Miami.

However, the Florida Phi Sig alumnae network is very strong, and we will also have representation from some of our collegiate chapters there, including our very own FAUNikki's chapter. This is obviously a great opportunity for both Phi Sigma Sigma and Alpha Xi Delta. FIT is a great campus and I know we are most definetly looking forward to the presentation!

Awwww, what an awesome compliment! Thank you for the vote of confidence. I've been very lucky to know some of our UCF sisters and they have always been impressive.

This is a great opportunity for either group.

Good luck to us both!

One of my best friends from high school was an AZD at UCF! :D

Alumni support for existing chapters could admittedly be better. Alpha Phi at least has tons of local alumnae, but few, if any, are involved with alumnae chapters. The closest one is Orlando/Winter Park. However, next year we are going to try and start an Ivy Connection for the Space Coast area (apparently there used to be one, but it no longer exists) to change that. Our new CA is very gung-ho about it, and I'm extremely willing to help her. However, our Tampa Bay and Jacksonville Alumnae chapters look out for us and are always sending us cute little gifts. We love those ladies so much!

The Greek Life advisor here is an Alpha Xi Delta, but I've never heard her mention anything about an Alpha Xi alumnae group. She has mentioned Alumnae Panhellenic, because she wants my big sister and myself to go to meetings with her once I graduate because she's the youngest one there!

I personally see a lot of positives for each group. I honestly can't say which I think the local group would be more interested in.

I ask this because I heard the comment (for the first time) at our new APH meeting last Sunday.

Does the lack of alumnae support have anything to do with the "snowbird" phenomenon?

We have had a Space Coast Alumnae Chapter for about 5 years now and as far as I know they are going pretty well.
