Lavaliere / Pearl Drop?

Hey, I have a question for you guys. Do your schools do lavaliereing? Like a guy in a fraternity lavaliere's you by giving you his letters on a necklace. Or pearl dropped, a boy not in a fraternity wants to do a pre-proposal promise [However, doesnt always end up in a proposal]. Anyway, I was talking to girlfriends of mine from home [up north] and their fraternity boys dont do lavaliering -- so I was curious if you guys did.

Yes Texas A&M did this-it was very common.

U of Houston did the candlelight ceremony. We sang our songs, and passed a candle. The first circle was a drop, second pin, third engaged. If the candle made it past the pin round, you could just FEEL the anticipation! Too cool. Then, after the lucky girl blew out the candle, everyone would hug and sing some more. THAT's when, if the guy was in a fraternity, all the men would show up and serenade. Ah, the memories!:)

At Elon we have candlepasses for sisters who are lavaliered or engaged. Usually the sister is taken to the fraternity's house at some point during the week before to take part in their ceremony, then she tells our president, then we have a candlepass. I love candlepasses--the anticipation and wondering always kills me! Mine wasn't so secret, though--my fiance proposed in front of my entire chapter at one of his concerts, so everyone knew it was me.

Ok, you guys won't believe this... but I got PEARL DROPPED on Saturday Night!! It's funny since I started this thread, but only because a while ago one of my sisters told me that my boyfriend had asked how to do it. So she told him. He knew about it because I had told him one of the girls had gotten Lavaliered, and how I'd wanted to get that done since I was a freshman, ya know one of those things I dreamed about, etc etc. But I didn't hang out with fraternity guys anymore so that wouldn't happen, well ANYWAY.

Friday we went to eat and hung out at the ROTC Ball because he wanted to see the Lt & Major's or whatever... but he got food poisoning that night, so he went home... and was sick all night, and saturday he was still not keeping food down. But we had plans to go eat at Calhoun Corners [really nice place] and I was like, Eric.. why don' we go when you feel better? And he goes, 'no we're going to dinner, I haven't taken you out in awhile... I'll be fine" So after much discussion, I was like... hmm fancy dinner.. he's insisting, ok, twist my arm, I'll go! :)

So we go in, and we sit down and start talking then he goes, close your eyes. While he pulls the box out of his sock [so I couldn't see, haha] and put the box on my plate, and he goes open your eyes, so I look at him, and he motions to my plate, and I look down and my jaw dropped. He goes, "does it look right?" And I go... "is this..." and he goes, "... yeah, a pearl drop. I want to show you how much I love you, and one day I will marry you". Well, I nearly started crying. Then he goes, " You've made my dreams come true, I wanted to make one of yours". :D

He had wanted to do it for a while, but wanted to wait til he met my parents [last monday], but before hte last chapter of the year. So tonight I get to do my candlelight!!!

Ok, sorry... that was a lot of writing. I'm excited!!! :)

ETA: Oh yeah, it's 14 kt gold, with a pearl in the middle, little diamonds around it, and 3 crystals on top.

The cool thing is that it was at the last chapter of the year... right after 'Pass the Gavel'. Really sweet. I was afraid everyone was going to be like, 'oh man, chapter was already this long and now we have a candlelight..?!?" but people were like, 'Ohhhhhh wow, I wonder who it is, yay, etc" It was actually really sweet

We have a candlelight ceremony for girls who get pinned, lavaliered, or engaged. It can be a little frustrating for the girls who aren't dating greek guys, though.
