Hazing Charges for Splinter Sorority

http://www.nola.com/news/t-p/neworle...2135220260.xml

This is right after Panhel, IFC, and the NPHC banned their members from attending their events.

Just goes to show you that women can be just as bad as men. Thanks to Tri Phi for continuing to uphold the ideals of sorority life....WHATEVER!!

What is so sad, they represent themslves as Greeks!:(

What is sadder yet, is that the media picks up on this and places the blame on all Greeks!

You know what? We need to have a "Darwin Award" equivalent for chapters that cast such a pall over the rest of greek life - these girls certainly qualify.

So, the contest is (no prizes other than you get credit for picking the winner) - is what should this award be named?

Jill1228 03-24-2004 07:29 PM

Question....
Does anyone have a theory to why people continue to pledge after this blatant mistreatment?
Now, some people do cry wolf in terms of hazing, some of the things I've heard didn't sound like hazing to me, but nonetheless people screamed haze. That entire term is kinda iffy.

But back to my question; why do people put up with this?
Call me crazy, but telling me to eat my own vomit would have been a "light bulb".

Hasn't Loyala always had problems with these girls? I know some girls from high school that at one time or another where in this.

Good question, and I don't have an answer. I do recall last year's highly-publicized hazing of young women by young women from a suburban Chicago high school, though -- that event, perhaps in less extreme form, had gone on for years. Tradition and a desire to belong can bring about pretty horrifying results at times.

Yeah it's been a problem. The school always sends out reminder emails to the students that if they're interested in being Greek, they should go through NPC recruitment or NPHC intake. The school really couldn't do anything, because it's not happening on campus. There's rumors flying all over the place to why they've chosen now to crack down. It's a bad year for Loyola-we've gotten plenty of bad publicity with the sex abuse scandal, the interim president being opposed to The Vagina Monologues because of the language (mainly the word vagina), and now this.

As for why girls go through it, Tri Phi is a status symbol. When my dad went to school here, they were the very rich, very New Orleans high society girls-for example, they were the queens in the biggest parades. Don't ask me why they still do it, I don't know. I wasn't interested in joining them.

azdtaxi 03-25-2004 01:33 AM

See I know now that is not true. I know some girls went them just cause they couldnt make it with the NPC sororities

GPhiLlama 03-25-2004 01:41 AM

They were a status symbol when they were a recognized campus organization. And OT, but is one of your sisters dating a guy named Manny who goes to Loyola?
